NOVEMBER 13, 2004
DILLON – The University of Montana-Western Bulldogs closed their season with a 17-14 win over the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers from Dillon’s Vigilante Field.

Western turned the ball over on their first possession when Nick Hannah intercepted a Travis Blome pass. Eastern Oregon converted the turnover into a 30 yard field goal from Cody Bloom.

The Bulldogs answered with an 11 play, 75 yard scoring drive that ended with a 15 yard strike from Blome to Thatcher Taylor. The Mountaineers cut the Western lead to one on Bloom’s second 30 yard field goal of the game in the closing seconds of the first half. Bulldogs Close Regular Season at Home Against Eastern Oregon
Tuesday, December 7 2004
November 12, 2004 - The University of Montana-Western Bulldog football team will close out their regular season against the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers, Saturday, November 12. Kickoff is 12:00 Noon from Dillon’s Vigilante Field.

Western is 6-4 overall and have wrapped up Frontier Conference play with a 6-2 record league play. That mark will give the Bulldogs either a tie for first place or a second place finish in the final conference standings, depending on the outcome of the Montana Tech – Carroll College game, also on Saturday.

What it apparently won’t give them is a berth in the NAIA Playoffs. Western is ranked 26th in the nation, but needs to be ranked in the Top-15 to hope for an at-large bid to the playoffs.

Eastern Oregon is 6-3 overall including a 14-10 win over then 6th ranked Azusa Pacific on October 30. Eastern will enter the Frontier Conference in football only in 2006. The Mountaineers ranked 25th in the latest NAIA Top-25.

Last week, Western beat MSU-Northern 38-7 while Eastern Oregon downed Southern Oregon 27-26.

EOU has already faced three Frontier Conference teams. The Mountaineers beat Rocky 47-0 and MSU-Northern 35-8 and lost to Montana Tech 24-14. Western swept the season series with both Rocky and Northern and split with Montana Tech. Last season, Eastern edged the Bulldogs 21-14.

Seventeen Bulldogs will play their final home game at Vigilante Field. They are running back Josh Shrum, offensive lineman Mike Schmidt and Ben Snipes, wide receivers T Artis, Cory Creighton, Dallas Mock, and Kyle Hannah; kicker/punter Eric Zahler, defensive backs Enoch McKeague, Shawn Stennerson, and Jake Shrum; defensive linemen Guy Silvernale, Nik Rewerts, Jereme Hess, Ruley Stingley, Jason Wedel; linebackers Bryan Arnston, and Zach Tune.

Bulldogs Start 2004 Season
Tuesday, December 7 2004
The University of Montana-Western was 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the Frontier Conference a year ago."We started out at 0-3 and put ourselves in a hole from the beginning," said Bulldog coach Tommy Lee. "I really like how we finished, winning seven of our last eight games. But that was last year, now we are concentrating on this season."

The Bulldogs return 18 starters from last year. Nine on offense and nine
on defense. And, this will be the largest senior class.

Western's offensive line is solid with all starters returning led by
All-Conference and All-American Ben Snipes. Great Falls junior tackle Mike
Schmidt (6-4, 270) and sophomore center Abe Apilado (6-3, 325) both earned All-Conference honors last year. Sophomore Corey Monroe (6-0, 344) of New Orleans, Louisana rounds out the returning starters. Offensive line coach John Keller got an added bonus when Darrell Bryce (6-3, 315) returned to the team. Bryce was an All-Conference selection in 2002 but spent last year working in Hawaii. In addition, the offensive line has added depth from a talented group of redshirt freshmen and transfers.

Missoula sophomore quarterback Travis Bloome (5-11, 180) will get the
start against Central Washington with freshman Keali'i Perbera (5-9, 170) in the number two position. Bloome was solid backup for Travis Kirby last year and had a good Spring but he is untested as a starter and he can handle game pressure. Bloome has good knowledge of our system and will get better as he goes. The success of our offense depends on our quarterback and what he is able to do," said Lee.

Returning starters, All-Conference and All-American senior Josh Shrum
(5-10, 185) of Boise, Idaho and junior Caleb Drinkwater (6-0, 195) of Great Falls will alternate in the Bulldogs one-back offensive set. Shrum led the Bulldogs in rushing last year with 545 yards. Add to his rushing yards 417 receiving yards and 519 yards in kick returns for an average of 134.6 yards a game in all-purpose yards. The Boise, Idaho senior set a school record for touchdowns scored in a single season with 18. Drinkwater rushed for 428 yards.

The receiver corps returns three starters, all seniors in starters
Dallas Mock (6-1, 215) of Kuna, Idaho, Cory Creighton (5-9, 170) of Palmer, Alaska and T Artis (5 7, 165) of Missoula. Mock led the team in receiving with 50 catches for 655 yards and seven touchdowns. The former All-State quarterback from Idaho was also two for two in passing and both passes were good for touchdowns. Senior Kyle Hannah of Cut Bank and juniors Josh Illig (5-8) 170 of Missoula and Michael Bisbee (5-11, 180) of
