Bulldog Football Signs Six

Six student-athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play football for the University of Montana Western according to head coach Tommy Lee.

Will Howerton is a 5-11, 205 lb linebacker from Wendell, Idaho. He earned All-Conference, All-Area and All-State honors. He also participated in baseball and basketball. From the classroom, he was a recipient of the President’s Education Award, Silver Level. Howerton is a 2006 graduate of Wendell High School and plans to major in business at Montana Western. He is the son of Steve and Gail Howerton.

Doug Hutchison is a 5-10, 186 lb linebacker and tight end from Carlin, Nevada. In his junior season, he was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Conference honors. Last year, he earned All-Conference honors on both offense and defense. He also participated in baseball and basketball and earned All-Conference honors in both sports. From the classroom, he maintained a 3.92 GPA. Hutchison is a 2006 graduate of Carlin Combined High School and plans to major in general studies at Montana Western. He is the son of Pauline and Steve Hutchison.

Denim Inman is a 6-2, 185 lb defensive back/wide receiver from Elko, Nevada. He earned All-Conference honors as both a defensive back and a kicker. In his senior season, he caught 17 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 81 tackles and one quarterback sack. For his career, he is second in career tackles all-time at Elko High with 207. Inman also participated in basketball and golf, earning all conference honors. From the classroom, he maintains a 3.3 GPA. Inman plans to major in health and human performance at Montana Western. He is a 2006 graduate of Elko High School and the son of Rocky Inman and Sandra Inman.

Brian Prussia is a 5-10, 165 safety from Pocatello, High School. He recorded 86 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles and earned All-Conference honors. He also participated in tennis.Prussia graduates June 1 from Pocatello High and is the son of Jennifer McIntosh and Geoff Prussia. He is undecided on his major at Montana Western.

Miles St. John is a 5-9, 170 lb running back and defensive back from Hunters, Washington. In his senior season, he rushed for 2745 yards, which is fourth best for a single season in the state of Washington. St. John also rushed for 43 touchdowns, fifth all-time. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors as both a running back and linebacker. St. John was named the Washington B-8 Player of the Year and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star game. He also competed in wrestling and qualified for the state wrestling tournament. In the classroom, St. John’s maintained a 3.3 GPA. He is a 2006 graduate of Columbia High School and plans to major in elementary education. St. John is the son of Doug and Debbie St. John.

Zachary Wilson is a 6-2, 220 offensive lineman from Boise, Idaho. He was a three-year starter and earned All-Conference honors. His teammates and coaches voted him “Mr. Hustle” for football. He also participated in baseball and hockey. Wilson was a member of the 2006 Idaho State Championship Hockey team. In baseball, he was a member of the District championship team. Wilson graduates May 26 from Timberline High School and plans to major in business at Montana Western. He is the son of John and Leona Wilson.

Six prep student athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent according to head football coach Tommy Lee.

Trevor S. Brown is a 5-9, 180 lb wide receiver from Twin Bridges, Montana. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors in football. Brown was selected to play in the Class C All-Star game. He also participated in basketball and earned All-Conference honors. Brown plans to major in business and computer technology. He is the son of Laura Pearsonn and Randy Brown and will graduate this spring from Twin Bridges High School.

Zach Beezley is a 6-2, 245 lbs defensive tackle from Eureka, Montana. In addition to football, he also participated in baseball. Beezley plans to major in computer science at Montana Western. He is the son of Terry and Nancy Beezley and will graduate this spring from Lincoln County High School.

Brad Gilchrist is 5-10, 205 lb linebacker from Great Falls, Montana. In his senior season, he recorded 26 solo tackles, 31 assisted tackles, one quarterback sack, five tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. Gilchrist earned All-Conference honors. He plans to major in secondary education with emphasis in industrial technology and business administration. Gilchrist will graduate this spring from Great Falls High School. He is the son of Harold Gilchrist and Julie Gilchrist.

Scott Schultz is a 5-11. 225 lbs linebacker-fullback from Hysham, Montana. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors in football and All-Conference honors in basketball. From the classroom, he was selected to the Academic All-Conference team. He will graduate this spring from Hysham High School and plans to major in elementary education at Montana Western. Schultz is the son of Bob and Lynn Schultz.

Andy Sieges is a 5-10, 185 lb linebacker from Charlo, Montana. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors and was selected to play in the Class C All-Star game. He also participated in basketball and track. From the classroom, he earned Academic All-State honors. Sieges will graduate this spring from Charlo High School. He is the son of Terry and Betty Sieges.

Luke Whitney is a 5-11, 235 lb defensive lineman from Chinook, Montana. He earned All-Conference honors as both an offensive and defensive lineman. Whitney was chosen his team’s Lineman of the Year. He also participated in basketball and was selected Chinook’s “Chairman of the Boards.” Whitney will graduate this spring from Chinook High School and is the son of Tim and Judy Whitney.

“Another group of talented freshman,” said Lee. “I am looking forward to seeing them in fall camp. There is the potential for them to help immediately.”

White Defeats Black in Spring Scrimmage

Justin Hartman threw two touchdown passes to lead the White team to a 23-14 victory over the Black team in the Montana Western Spring scrimmage on sunshine filled Saturday from Dillon’s Vigilante Field.

Hartman was 24 of 30 for 299 yards and no interceptions in the victory. He threw 11 yards to Craigh Cornelius for his first scoring strike and then connected with his brother Travis for a 30 yard touchdown pass. Travis Hartman led the White team with nine catches for 150 yards and the touchdown.

Travis Blome started the scrimmage at quarterback but was injured in the second quarter on a fluke play. While attempting a pass, Blome dislocated his finger as his hand struck a lineman’s helmet on the follow-threw. Before his injury, he threw 42 yards to Jake Larson for the scrimmage’s first score. Larson led the Black team receivers with 6 catches for 112 yards and the touchdown.

Blome was replaced by freshman redshirt Jensen Cabanero. On the ground, the black team out-gained the White team 62-47 led by Derik Pluff with 74 yards. Tyler Cress led the White team’s rushing attack with 28 yards and one touchdown.

Montana Western opens their 2006 season at home on Sep. 9 against MSU-Northern.
