Western faces Eastern Oregon Friday at 9:00 pm MST and Albertson College, Saturday at 7:00 pm MST. Carroll College is also competing at the tournament and will trade opponents with the Bulldogs.

Both games will air on KDBM-AM, 1490 on the AM dial and over the internet on Sportsjuice.com.

Western is 2-2 on the season after dropping two at the Westminster Tournament last weekend. The Bulldogs lost to Concordia University 100-85 and Fresno Pacific 100-86. Western opened the season with a 92-85 win over the University of Lethbridge followed by an exciting 94-90 overtime win over Eastern Oregon.

Eastern is 1-1 on the season. The Mountaineers evened their record with a 89-79 win over Montana Tech in Butte.

Albertson is 1-1 on the season. The Coyotes opened the season with a 91-64 loss to Boise State and then downed Northwest Nazarene 78-71 on Wednesday night. Albertson has won the previous five meetings between the two schools including an 80-76 win last year at the Quinn Classic.

"These will be a couple of tough games this week,” said Bulldog coach Mark Durham. “Our Eastern Oregon game at home last week was very close and Albertson is ranked (16th) again. We really found our weaknesses this past weekend. We got exposed bad off the dribble and weren't patient enough on offense. We have had a great week of practice and I'm excited to see if we can go and improve in those areas. We have a very tough non-conference schedule so we need to play one game at a time and keep improving."

Tyler Palmer leads five Bulldogs scoring double figures. Palmer averages 20.8 ppg followed by Charlie Cox with 18.5, Jeff Graham with 13.5, Jeff Feenstra with 11.3 and Kellen Ori with 10.8.

Bulldogs Compete at Westminster Tournament
Wednesday, November 2 2005
The University of Montana-Western men’s basketball team travels to Salt Lake City to play in the Homestead Studio Suites Invitational Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5.

Western plays the Concordia University Eagles on Friday and the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Saturday. Both games tip-off at 5:00 p.m. from the Westminster Gymnasium.

Western is 2-0 on the season after wins over the University of Lethbridge (92-85) and Eastern Oregon (94-90 ot).

This will be Concordia’s first game of the season. The Eagles, members of the Gold Coast Athletic Conference, are ranked 12th in the NAIA Division I Pre-Season Power Poll. Last season, Western surprised sixth ranked Concordia 85-74. The Eagles went on to a 26-9 record and an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament.

"We will have our hands full this week,” said Bulldog coach Mark Durham. “Concordia is ranked #12 and have a lot of guys back from their national tourney team last year. They really like to pressure, so we will have to keep our turnovers down. We need to go into the game and attack them. The pressure is on them, not us, so I expect us to play free and loose and give them a heck of a game.”

Fresno Pacific, also in the Gold Coast Athletic Conference, finished last season with a 9-20 overall record and a 6-14 finish in conference play.

“Fresno has a new coach so we know nothing about them,” added Durham. “The good thing is we can watch them on Friday night against Westminster. These are good early season games on a neutral court."

Five players are averaging in double figures for the Bulldogs led by Tyler Palmer with 18.5 pts a game. Right behind Palmer is Charlie Cox with 18 points followed by Jeff Graham with 16, Jeff Feenstra with 13 and Kellen Ori with 12.

The University of Montana-Western Bulldog basketball team edged the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers 94-90 in overtime in non-conference men’s college basketball game from Dillon. The win raises the Bulldogs’ record to 2-0 while Eastern Oregon falls to 0-1.

The Mountaineers opened up the second half with a 7-0 run to lead 50-39. Eastern maintained a nine point lead over the next couple of minutes. Over the next six minutes, the teams traded leads until Charlie Cox hit a jumper with five seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime with score tied at 79-79.

Eastern Oregon controlled the tip but turned the ball over on an offensive charge. Western converted on a Tyler Palmer lay-up off a Charlie Cox pass and never looked back.
