Friday, May 26 2006
Two student-athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to head coach Mark Durham.

Jake Mickelson is a 6-3 forward from Phillipsburg. He averaged 24 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists and earned All-Conference and All-State honors. He also participated in football where he set several school records and earned All-Conference honors. From the classroom, he earned Academic All-State honors in both sports. Mickelson plans to major in education at Western. He is a 2006 graduate of Granite High School.

“Jake can really shoot it,” said Durham. “He has good size and is a tough match-up on the perimeter.”

Aaron Sims is a 6-6 forward from Birmingham, Alabama. He transfers to Montana Western from Northwest College of Powell, Wyoming. At Northwest, he averaged eight points, 14 rebounds and three assists per game. Sims is undecided on his major at Western.

“Aaron is very athletic and very quick,” said Durham. “He is a very good rebounder and we think that fills a hole we needed to fill.”
