Finberg Joins Bulldog Staff
Thursday, May 17 2007
Incoming University of Montana Western men’s basketball coach Steve Keller completed his coaching staff with the addition of Craig Finberg of Dillon.

Finberg is no stranger to Bulldog basketball. After a very successful playing career at Montana State University, he worked as an assistant to the legendary Bulldog coach Casey Keltz while completing his education degree at Western Montana College (now University of Montana Western).

His career as a head coach began at Dillon's Beaverhead County High School (BCHS). In his 18-year career at BCHS, Finberg became the winningest coach in school history with a 281-160 overall record. He guided the Beavers to six divisional championships and state championships in 1990 and 1999.

The 1990 title was the first state title of any kind for the school since 1946. Finberg was selected the Montana Coach’s Association Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1999.

After his retirement from coaching at BCHS, he returned to the Bulldog bench to assist Mark Durham for one season. Finberg left the coaching world to pursue his Master’s Degree. With his Master’s program nearly complete, Finberg returns to coaching as an assistant on Keller’s staff.

“I am very excited and very fortunate to have Coach Finberg join our staff at Montana Western,” Keller said. “Finny brings a wealth of knowledge and coaching experience to our program.”

Finberg continues to teach at Beaverhead County High School. His wife Tammy is a cosmetologist in Dillon.

Bulldogs Sign Stevensville Star
Tuesday, May 1 2007
Daniel Creech, a 6’6” forward/post from Stevensville, Mont., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to incoming head coach Steve Keller. Creech transfers from Blue Mountain Community College.

At Stevensville High School, Creech earned All-Conference and All-State honors. He averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season. He averaged 19 points and nine rebounds at Blue Mountain.

“Daniel is a very physical post player,” said Keller. “He can play with his back to the basket and step out and shoot the three. He will make an immediate impact in the post for the Bulldogs.”

Creech is the son of Chuck and Cindy Creech. His high school coach was former Bulldog and Montana Western graduate Keith Chambers.
