Bulldogs Sign J.C. Star

Dovydas Retkus, a 6’7” post player from Plunge, Lithuania, has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western, according to incoming men’s basketball coach Steve Keller.

Retkus is a 2006 graduate of Zemes Űkio Irverslo Mokykla High School and transfers from Northwest College of Powell, Wyo.

During this past season, he averaged 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds. Retkus hit 53 percent of his field goals and 80 percent of his free throws.

“Dovy is a very strong, physical post player who possesses good post moves with either hand and has the ability to step out behind the arc and hit the three point shot,” said Keller. “He plays extremely hard and will be a very good post defender. Dovy has a chance to be a very good post player in our league.”

Retkus will major in business. He is the son of Ona and Antanas Retkus.

Helena High Star Transfers to Montana Western

University of Montana Western men’s basketball coach Steve Keller announced the signing of Garrett Fink of Helena, Mont., to a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent.

Fink, a 6’5” forward, transfers to Montana Western from Rocky Mountain College. He is a graduate of Helena High School.

In his senior season at Helena High, Fink averaged 17 points and seven rebounds a game. He earned all-conference and all-state honors and was selected to play in the Montana-Wyoming All-Star Game.

"Garrett brings size and strength to the Bulldog perimeter," said Keller. "He can play either the 3 or 4 position. Garrett is a very good 3-point shooter and is strong enough to be a good defender."

He is the son of Rueben and Debbie Fink and will major in business.

Bulldog Basketball Signs Three

University of Montana Western men’s basketball coach Steve Keller announced the signing of three student athletes to Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent.

Colby Blaine is a 6’4” forward from Boise, Idaho. He is a graduate of Boise High School and a transfer from Blue Mountain Community College of Pendleton, Ore.

He averaged seven points and three rebounds per game. From the classroom, Blaine was selected to the Dean’s List and the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges all-academic team.

He is the son of Rob Blaine and plans to major in secondary education.

Chad Jones is a 6’5” guard from Turner, Mont. and a 2007 graduate of Turner High School.

He averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Jones earned all-conference, all-state and academic all-state honors, and was selected to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.

He will major in business. Jones is the son of Terry and Tammy Jones.

Tyrel Thurston is a 6’0” guard/forward from Coffee Creek, Mont. He is a 2007 graduate of Denton High School.

In his senior season, Thurston averaged averaged 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. For his career, he averaged 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. He earned all-conference honors in basketball and qualified for the state track meet.

He will major in elementary education. Thurston is the son of Vaughn Thurston and Darlene Pearce.
