Earthquake Damage Statement
Wednesday, July 27 2005
As a result of the July 25th earthquake, The University of Montana Western administration has taken precautionary measures to insure the safety of the campus community by temporarily closing sections of Block and Main Halls.
A structural engineer will visit the campus to assess the impact of the quake on several of the larger campus structures.
"At this point, we have identified minor damage primarily to sections of Main and Block Hall", said Chancellor Richard Storey. "We will wait for the engineer's assessment before proceeding. A thorough examination of all university buildings is underway. We are extremely fortunate that the earthquake occurred after work hours and before the upcoming academic year begins."

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks Comes to UM-Western
Wednesday, July 13 2005
The University of Montana-Western in conjunction with the Southwest Montana Arts Council presents Montana Shakespeare in the Park's presentation of "Cymbeline" on at Jaycee Park Thursday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m.
"Cymbeline" is Shakespeare's oft-overlooked fantasy romance. "Cymbeline" tells the story of a weak willed king, his overbearing second wife, and his beautiful daughter. "Cymbeline" takes the audience on a marvelous epic adventure in which our heroes are threatened by war, poisoning, and even a death sentence issued by a husband. The story has many twists and turns and will delight any of lovers of theatrical fantasy.
"Cymbeline" may be unfamiliar to many theatergoers, artistic director Joel Jahnke urges audience members to give it a try.
“I had never read the play until a few years ago,” said Jahnke. “But when I did, I was smitten with this uplifting, adventurous fairy tale. I love all the characters in the play, but I particularly love the young heroine Imogene, who is both vulnerable and brave. What a delightful discovery "Cymbeline" has been!”
William Brown, who has directed many of Montana Shakespeare in the Park's most acclaimed productions over the years, directs "Cymbeline".
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is part of the summer series “Dinner in the Park.” The performance is free and open to the public, so bring your family and friends, and get comfortable with a blanket and a picnic. For those not wanting to pack a picnic, dinner will be available for a nominal charge beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks presentation of "Cymbeline" at Jaycee Park Thursday, July 28 beginning at 6:00 p.m. For more information, contact Deborah at the University of Montana-Western at 683-7302.
