2005 Fall Semester Begins

As graduation is the ceremony that officially ends a student's college experience, convocation is the ceremony that officially begins it. On a sunny August afternoon, the UM-Western Class of 2009 began officially began their academic journey into higher education. The first day of classes was an historic day for the UM-Western as it was the first day of Experience One or one course at a time for the entire university.

Earthquake Awareness Forum Set for August 18

The University of Montana-Western School of Outreach is sponsoring an Earthquake Awareness Community Forum, Thursday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Room of the Swysgood Technology Center.

Mike Stickney, Director of Earthquake Studies at the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology will be the featured speaker. Stickney will talk about the most recent earthquakes and the history of earthquakes in Southwest Montana.

UM-Western geology professors Dr. Sheila Roberts and Dr. Rob Thomas will speak on the geology of Beaverhead County and how it relates to the recent earthquakes.

Larry Lakner, Director of Disaster and Emergency Services of Beaverhead County, will speak on earthquake preparedness.
