Rehearsal Times Set For Montana Western Music Groups
Monday, August 20 2007
The University of Montana Western music program announces rehearsal times for the fall semester for their three performing groups.

The Community-University Concert Band meets Mondays at 7 p.m. in Main Hall 415. The Concert band is under the direction of Dr. Brent McCabe, who comes to Montana Western from Eastern Wyoming College. McCabe has an interesting assortment of music planned for the concert band. The group also has instrumental available for loan.

The Community-University Jazz Ensemble will meet Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. in Main Hall 415. The group, under the direction of Dr. Laurie Heneman, performed this summer at the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival. The ensemble also performs throughout Dillon and southwest Montana.

The Noontime Chorale will meet from 11:20 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in MH 415. All voices are welcome. The chorale is under the direction of Dr. Jeri Bonnin. Several members of the group traveled to Austria last spring and had a wonderful trip because of the support of the Montana Western campus and the Dillon community.

For more information on these and other music programs at Montana Western, contact Bonnin at 683-6215 or by email at j_bonnin@umwestern.edu.

Montana Western Students Fighting Fires Receive Extenstions
Monday, August 6 2007
The University of Montana Western has extended its registration deadline to Sept. 14 for students battling western wildfires, Chancellor Richard Storey announced today.

“We recognize the sacrifices our students are making in protecting our natural resources particularly in such a critical year. Montana Western is proud to assist these students,” Storey said.

Normal fall semester classes begin Aug. 27. However with Montana Western’s unique Experience One, where students take one class at a time in four blocks per semester, fire fighters can skip the first block and begin class Sept. 24.

“That’s the beauty of our block system. Although starting late, students can still earn 12 credit hours maintaining their full-time status and eligibility for financial aid. Our students can miss a block and still continue their education without interruption,” Storey said.

Students are asked to call Montana Western’s Registrars Office at (406) 683-7371 by Aug. 17 or as soon as possible to secure the extension. In addition, the normal $40 late-registration fee will be waived.

The Montana Western Student Life Office will also hold dorm rooms for firefighters until the Sept. 14 deadline.
