Montana Western Sends 14 to CNFR

The Montana Western rodeo team ended the regular season with a bang! The men’s team won both rodeos at Missoula while the women’s team finished third in the first rodeo and first in the second.
When the dust cleared, Montana Western cowboys and cowgirl girls held 10 regional titles. The men’s team claimed the regional team title while the women’s team was the reserve champion. Head Coach Olie Else was named the Big Sky Region's Coach of the Year.
Individual championship buckles went to Mac Erickson in the men’s all-around and in bareback riding; Jarrett Monroe in saddle bronco, Sam Levine in tie down roping, Cody Hutchison in team roping heeler, Matt Robertson in team roping header, Tierani Brusett in breakaway roping and Kayla Hutchison in women’s all-around and goat tying.
Kayla Hutchison's horse, Daisy, won women's horse of the year and Jabe Anderson’s horse, Slim, won men's horse of the year.
Fourteen Montana Western cowboys and cowgirls advance to Casper for the College National Finals June 11-17.
In addition to the regional champions, also qualifying for the CNFR: Traci Bevans, Colter Davis, Chase Erickson, James Irish, Deanna Levine, Sam Levine, Stetson Wilson and Bry Worthern.

Western Rodeo Closes Out Regular Season

The University of Montana Western rodeo team closes out their regular season with a pair of rodeos in Missoula, May 4-7 at the Missoula County Fairgrounds.
On Thursday, one performance at 7 p.m. On Friday, slack performance at 10 a.m. followed by the short go for the first rodeo Friday night at 7. On Saturday, slack performance at 7 a.m., regular performance at 2 p.m. and a “bulls and broncs” performance at 7:30 p.m. The short go for the second rodeo is 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
The Montana Western rodeo team is coming off a weekend that saw both the men and women’s teams winning team titles. Montana Western cowboys winning individual championships were James Irish in saddle bronc, Colter Davis in bareback, Stetson Wilson in steer wrestling and Cody Hutchison and Matt Robertson in team roping. Montana Western cowgirls winning championship buckles were Kayla Hutchison in all-around and breakaway roping, Shaylee French in barrel racing and Traci Bevans in goat tying.
Going into the final regular season weekend, the Western men’s team leads the region and is rankded sixth in the nation. The women’s team is ranked second in region and 19th in the nation. Both teams will qualify for the College National Finals in Casper, Wyoming.
