Jarrett Monroe Wins National Saddle Bronc Title

JamesIrishWeb.jpg TieraniBrusettWeb.jpg Jarrett Monroe, a senior from Browning, Montana, captured the Saddle Bronc Title at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.

Monroe lead from start to finish. He won the first and third go on his way to the national title. He was making his third appearance at the CNFR.

Teammate James Irish, a junior from Lewistown, Montana, finished seventh and the Western men's team finished eighth overall.

The Western women finished seventh overall led by senior Tierani Brusett's fourth place finish. Brusett, a senior from Brusett, Montana won the second go and the short go. Only a broken barrier penalty in her first run kept from a national title.

Montana Western Rodeo Sends 14 to CNFR

Rodeo6.jpg Rodeo7.jpg The University of Montana-Western men and women’s rodeo teams travel to Casper, Wyo. for the College National Finals Rodeo, June 11-17.

Led by regional champs Mac Erickson, Cody Hutchison, Sam Levine, Jarrett Monroe, and Matt Robertson, the Western’s men’s team won the Big Sky Regional Title for the second straight year. Mac Erickson will be unable to compete at the CNFR due to a knee injury. In addition to the regional champions Colter Davis, Chase Erickson, James Irish and Stetson Wilson will compete for the national title. Western’s Jabe Anderson, the Big Sky Region’s Student Director, will compete at the finals as an independent.

Mac Erickson, a junior from Malta, Idaho, won the men’s All-Around title, the bareback title and finished fifth in bull riding. He was injured at the Dawson Community College rodeo. Jabe Anderson will compete in steer wrestling.

Chase Erickson, a senior from Malta, Idaho was the regional reserve champion in bareback riding. He also placed 11th in bull riding. Cody Hutchison, a junior from Blackfoot, Idaho, will go to the CNFR as the regional champion in team roping, header. James Irish, a junior from Lewistown, Mont., was the regional reserve champion in saddle bronc. Sam Levine, a freshman from Wolf Creek, Mont., won the tie-down roping title. Jarrett Monroe, a senior from Browning, won the regional title in saddle bronc and will be making his third trip to the CNFR. Hutchison finished sixth in the regional All-Around standings and 11th in tie down roping. He also qualified last year team roping. Matt Robertson, a senior from Augusta, won his second straight regional title in team roping, heeler. Stetson Wilson, a freshman from Pocatello, Idaho, was the regional reserve champion in steer wrestling.

“We are sending a balanced and very experienced team to the CNFR this year,” said Western rodeo coach Iola Else. This is one of the strongest teams we have ever sent to the CNFR. The men are riding high after winning the region.”

The Western women’s team was the regional reserve champions led by individual champions Tierani Brusett and Kayla Hutchison. Also qualifying for CNFR were Bry Worthen, Traci Bevans and Deanna Levine.

Kayla Hutchison, a junior from Hulett, Wyo., won the women’s all-around and the goat tying titles and finished third in breakaway roping. Tierani Brusett, a senior from Brusett, Mont., won the breakaway roping title. Traci Bevans, a senior from Cardston, Alberta, Canada, was the reserve champion in goat tying and finished 11th in breakaway roping. Levine finished third in the region in barrel racing. Worthen is making her fourth trip to the CNFR. She finished second in the nation two years ago.

“I like the look of our women’s team going to at the CNFR,” added Else. “We are not only balanced, but we have the talent to go with CNFR experience.”
