Western Rodeo Signs Two

CodyHutchison1.jpg Cody Hutchison of Blackfoot, Idaho and Kayla Hutchison of Alzoda, Montana, have signed NIRA Letters of Intent to rodeo for the University of Montana-Western, according to head coach Olie Else. Both athletes transfer to Western from Northwest College of Powell, Wyoming.

Kayla is the 2005 Big Sky Region All-Around cowgirl. She finished second in goat tying and in a tie for ninth in breakaway roping. In her freshman season, she finished third in goat tying and third in all-around. From the classroom, she was recognized for excellence at Nortwest College in her area of study, social science education. She is a 2003 graduate of Hulett High School where she qualified for the National High School Rodeo and was selected to the Wrangler All-Star team. She also competed in basketball and earned All-Conference and All-State honors. Kayla holds a Wyoming 1-A record for having a triple double at the State Basketball Tournament. She is the daughter of Tim and Terry Raye McInerney and plans to major in secondary education at Western.

Cody is a 2002 graduate of Blackfoot High School where he District Calf Roping champion in both his junior and senior season and was the Reserve Steer Wrestling champion his junior season and champion his senior season. He qualified for the 2005 College National Finals in team roping. He finished seventh in team roping/heeler as Northwest finished second in the Big Sky Region. Cody finished 10th in steer wrestling and 12th in tie-down roping. On the professional circuit, Cody is a two-time Wilderness Circuit Qualifier. He is the son of Bonnie and Jim Hutchison of Blackfoot and plans to major in secondary education at Western.

Cody and Kayla were married July 15.
