Fall Rodeo is Sept. 29, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1

The University of Montana Western rodeo team hosts their annual fall rodeo Friday, Sept. 29; Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1. at the Harry Andrus arena at the Beaverhead County Fairgrounds in Dillon. This is the final rodeo of the fall season.

Performance times are 5 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Entering the weekend, the Montana Western men’s team leads the nation and the Big Sky Region. Western’s Kyle VanBiezen leads the nation and the region tie-down roping. Sam Levine is second in both the region and nation in All-Around, he leads the nation and the region in team roping healer and is second in the nation and in the region in tie down roping. Taylor Nahrgang is second in the nation and the region in steer wrestling. In saddle bronc riding James Irish and Brian Dawson are second and fifth respectively in the region and the nation. Colter Davis is second in the nation and the region in bareback riding. Coulter Gruel and Justin Lund are third and fourth respectively in tie down roping in the region and the nation. Gruel is also ninth in the nation and seventh in the region in steer wrestling and seventh in the nation and sixth in the region in team roping header. Stetson Wilson is sixth in the region and the nation in steer wrestling. Deven Duffin and Alex Watson are fourth and fifth respectively in both the region and the nation in team roping heeler. Parker Munion is sixth in the region and tied for seventh in the nation in team roping heeler.

Entering the weekend, the Montana Western women’s team is second in the Big Sky Region and third in the nation. In breakway roping Kasie Roe, Amy Ward, Coree Shiner and Britney Lyman are ranked sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth in the region. Nationally, Roe is 12th, Ward is 13th, Shiner is 14th and Lyman is tied for 17th. In goat tying, Amber Overstreet is second in the region and the nation. Shaylee French is sixth in the nation and ranked 10th in the nation. Kasie Roe is seventh in the region and 11th in the nation, Amy Ward is 9th in the region and 11th in the nation and Mandy Eichorn is 10th in the nation.

Montana Western Cowgirl Receives Academic All-American Honors

The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association announced their 2006 Academic All-Americans. To be eligible, an NIRA student athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and qualify for the 2006 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.

University of Montana Western’s Kayla Hutchison of Hulette, Wyo was one of 30 student athletes to receive the honor.

Hutchison is a secondary education major. She was the 2006 Big Sky All-Around Cowgirl and goat tying champion.
