Butte High Star Signs With Bulldog Volleyball

University of Montana Western volleyball coach Katie Howells’ next signing of the 2008 recruiting class is Jamie Zemljak, a 5-7, outside hitter/defensive specialist from Butte, Mont.
“Jamie has excelled both on the court and in the classroom at Butte High,” said Howells. ”We look forward to having her continue her education and volleyball career at Montana Western. Jamie comes from a competitive program and I believe she will come in and work hard for us right away.”
Zemljak earned all-conference and all-state honors at Butte High. She had 176 digs, 105 kills and 37 aces.
“I chose Montana Western because I like the Experience One program and the classes offered in wildlife biology and equine studies,” said Zemljak. ”It is a great opportunity to play volleyball for Coach Howells, and I am able to stay close to home. I am very excited!”
From the classroom, she was selected to the National Honor Society and earned academic all-state honors.
Zemljak will graduate this spring from Butte High and will major in wildlife biology and equine studies. She is the daughter of Mike and Molly Zemljak.

California Star Joins Bulldog Volleyball

Elise Davis, a 6-0 middle blocker from Anaheim Hills, Calif., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Katie Howells.
“Elise wanted to go somewhere where she could make a difference in a program and I think Montana Western is exactly the right place for that,” said Howells. “She is going to change the look of our front row with her ability to put the ball away in a fast paced offense.”
Davis earned All-League honors as Orange Lutheran High School won the Trinity League championship. She was elected team captain and was selected the Orange Lutheran Athlete of the Month in October.
Davis was also elected team captain of her TCA (Team Complete Athlete) volleyball team.
“I chose Montana Western because every person I met on my visit was extremely nice and friendly,” said Davis. “The area surrounding the school stunned me with its beautiful mountains and I look forward to learning more about Montana as well as learning more about volleyball.”
Davis excels in the classroom as well and was selected to the Orange Lutheran Honor Roll.
She is the daughter of Allan and Kim Davis and plans to major in environmental sciences.

Bulldog Volleyball Signs Corvallis Star

University of Montana Western head volleyball coach Katie Howells took the next step in her rebuilding process by signing Maria Peterson, a 5-10 setter/right-side hitter from Corvallis, Mont., to a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent.
Peterson transfers from Montana State-Bozeman and will be a sophomore in eligibility. She is a 2006 graduate of Corvallis High School.
“Maria is a great athlete and will help our program as a setter and a hitter,” said Howells. “She wanted the opportunity to go somewhere and help a program rebuild. Maria is going to help Montana Western take another step in the right direction. She will be a key player in our offense.”
In her senior season at Corvallis, Peterson guided the Blue Devils to a fourth place finish at the state tournament and to a 10-4 conference record. She had 313 kills, 212 assists, 82 service aces and 72 blocks. Peterson earned all-conference and all-state honors and was a three-time all-state academic selection.”
“I like the small town atmosphere and the people are so nice.”said Peterson. There are great opportunities both in the classroom and on the court. I am excited because Montana Western is a different kind learning environment. The classrooms are small and not your typical classroom. I'm happy to be a part of the team and a part of the rebuilding process.”
Peterson will major in business. She is the daughter of Curtis and Carol Peterson.
