Lady Bulldogs Win at Lewis-Clark

The Lady Bulldogs downed Lewis-Clark 3-1 in Lewiston, Idaho on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-24, 30-21, 29-30 and 33-31.
The win raised their conference record to 8-4 and their overall record to 16-10.
Katherine Sunwall led the attack with 23 kills followed by Jenny Finlay with 18 and Kendall Bradley with 12. Bradley was tough on defense as she led the team in digs with 25 followed by Casey Barry and Finlay with 11 and Lindsey Scott with 10.
Western hosts the University of Great Falls on Thursday, November 3 and MSU-Northernn on Friday, November 4 in the final matches of the regular season. The Northern match was moved from Saturday to Friday.

Lady Bulldogs Play at Montana Tech

The University of Montana-Western volleyball team travels to Butte for a Frontier Conference match against Montana Tech, Wednesday, Oct. 26. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Hyper Complex.
Western is 7-3 overall and 15-9 overall after last weekend's home sweep of Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College. Western defeated Carroll 3-1 and Rocky 3-0.
Montana Tech extended their winning streak to three matches as they won twice on the road. Tech swept the University of Great Falls 3-0 and downed MSU-Northern 3-1.
Western is currently in third place in the conference followed by Montana Tech in fourth place with two weeks left of the regular season.
This will be the third meeting of the season between Western and Tech. The Lady Bulldogs downed Tech 3-1 in non-conference match in August and then 3-1 in a conference match last month in Dillon.
“Tech is playing very well now,” said Western coach Jenny Peterson. “They seem to be peaking right when they should be. Our previous two matches were very tough matches and I don't see anything different for this one. With only two weeks left of the regular season, every match is important. We need to play smart and not make mistakes.”
Katherine Sunwall leads Western with 4.24 kills per game followed by Kendall Bradley with 2.89 and Jenny Finlay with 2.69. Bradley leads the team in digs with 3.06 per game followed by Finlay with 2.93. Sunwall leads in blocks with 1.44 per game.

Lady Bulldogs Sweep Rocky

The Lady Bulldogs swept Rocky Mountain College 3-0 in a Frontier Conference match from the Straugh Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-18, 30-16 and 30-25.
Western is now 15-9 overall and 7-3 in the Frontier.
Jenny Finlay led Western with 17 kills followed by Katherine Sunwall with 15. Kendall Bradley led the team in digs with 15. Sunwall was tops in blocks with 2 solo and four assisted.
Western hits the road for matches at Montana Tech on Wednesday, October 26 and at Lewis-Clark on Saturday, Oct. 29

Western Downs Carroll in Frontier Conference Volleyball

The University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldogs downed Carroll College 3-1 in a Frontier Conference volleyball match, Friday, Oct. 21 from Dillon.
The win raises Western’s record to 14-9 overall and 6-3 in Frontier Conference action. Carroll falls to 4-6 in league play and 11-12 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs won the first two games and looked to be moving toward a three game sweep of the Saints. Carroll came alive in game three and the Lady Bulldogs had trouble doing anything and fell 17-30.
In game four, the two teams traded leads early in the game. Carroll seemed to take control and built an 15-11 lead. Western edged closer and the teams traded points and leads until the game was tied at 20. A kill by Jenny Finlay gave the Lady Bulldogs a 21-20 lead and it was a lead they would never lose.
Finlay led Western with 19 kills followed by Kendall Bradley and Katherine Sunwall with 14 each. Bradley had 16 kills followed by Jeni Ramondelli with 14 and Casey Barry with 13.
Natalie Solomon led Carroll with 12 kills followed by Rosie Meyn and Katie Poltte with ten each. Valissa Sneck led the defense with 25 digs followed by Solomon with 20 and Meyn with 19.

Western hosts Carroll and Rocky Mountain

After two weeks on the road, the University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldog volleyball team returns to the Straugh Gymnasium to host Carroll College on Friday, October 21 and Rocky Mountain College on Saturday, October 22. Friday's match begins at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's match begins at 5:00 p.m.
Western is 13-9 on the season and 5-3 in league play after last Saturday's 2-3 loss to league leading Westminster College.
Carroll is 4-5 in league play and 11-11 overall after last weekend's losses to MSU-Northern (2-3) and the University of Great Falls (2-3). Rocky is 3-6 in the conference and 8-10 overall after last weekend's split with Northern and UGF. Rocky lost to MSU-Northern 2-3 and surprised Great Falls 3-2.
“These are going to be two very tough matches,” said Western coach Jenny Peterson. “Carroll has struggled a bit this season, but we can't take anything for granted. They have great athletes and we will have to play our best if we want to win. Same is true for Rocky. Last weekend, they lost a 3-2 match to Northern and then turned around the next night and beat Great Falls. This is a very competitive conference. As the say goes, on any given night.”
Great Falls senior Katherine Sunwall continues to lead Western in kills and blocks with 4.26 kills per game and 1.65 blocks. Riverton, Utah junior Jenny Finlay leads the team in digs with 2.96 per game followed by Twin Bridges senior Kendall Bradley with 2.93.

Lady Bulldogs Fall to Westminster

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Salt Lake CIty and lost a hard fought 2-3 match to league leading Westminster. The loss dropped Western to 5-3 in league play and 13-9 overall.
Western won the first game 30-21, but then lost game two and three. The Lady Bulldogs tied the match up by winning the fourth game 30-24. Westminster won the match deciding game 15-10.
Katherine Sunwall led Western with 16 kills followed by Kendall Bradley with 14 and Jenny Finlay with 13. Westminster's Angie Johnson led everyone with 33 kills.
Western returns home to host Carroll on Oct. 21 and Rocky on Oct. 22.

Lady Bulldogs On the Road to Salt Lake City

The University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldog volleyball team travels to Salt Lake City for a Frontier Conference match against Westminster College, Friday, October 14.
Western is 13-8 on the season and 5-2 in league play (second place). Westminster is tied for first with the University of Great Falls with a 6-1 league mark. The Griffins are 10-9 overall.
Last weekend, Western split their road trip to UGF and MSU-Northern. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Great Falls 3-1 and beat MSU-Northern 3-0. Westminster made the same road trip. The Griffins beat Great Falls 3-2 and Northern 3-1.
“This is a very important match for us,” said Western coach Jenny Peterson. “When we played Westminster a month ago, we didn't very well. We just couldn't get any rhythm and made too many mistakes. This is the start of the second half of the season and every match becomes even more important as we get closer to the conference tournament.”
Western's Katherine Sunwall leads the league in kills and blocks with 4.33 kills and 1.48 blocks. Lindsey Scott leads the league in assists with 11.53 per game.
The Lady Bulldogs return home October 21 and 22 for home matches against Rocky and Carroll.

Lady Bulldogs Split High Line Road Trip

The Lady Bulldogs split their Frontier Conference series on the High Line. Western fell to the University of Great Falls 3-1 and defeated MSU-Northern 3-0. The split leaves Western with a 13-8 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Frontier.
Friday night at Great Falls, the Lady Bulldogs got to a quick start against league leading UGF and won game one 30-16. The Lady Argos regrouped and won the final three 30-20, 30-21 and 30-18.
Jenny Finlay led Western's attack with 11 kills followed by Katherine Sunwall and Kendall Bradley with 10 kills apiece. Bradley led the defense with 16 digs.
Saturday night against MSU-Northern, despite the sweep, the wins didn't come easily in each of the three games. Western won 30-22, 32-30 and 30-25.
Finlay again led the Western attack, this time with 15 kills followed by Sunwall with 13 and Bradley and Shannon O'Keefe with ten each. Lindsey Scott led the defense with 11 kills followed by Jeni Ramondelli with 10. Sunwall had five blocks, two unassisted and three assisted.
Western travels to Westminster on Friday, October 14.

Lady Bulldogs at University of Great Falls and MSU-Northern

The University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldog volleyball team travels to Great Falls and Havre for two Frontier Conference matches.
Western plays at the University of Great Falls on Friday, Oct. 7 and at MSU-Northern on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Western is 12-7 on the season and 4-1 in league play after last weekend's sweep of Montana Tech (3-1) and Lewis-Clark (3-0).
“It was nice to get the wins,” said Western coach Jenny Peterson. “The conference is so competitive that every match we play is an important match. With Kendall sitting out the two matches, it gave our freshmen a chance to come in and get valuable experience.”
MSU-Northern and UGF played only one match last week, and it was a conference match between the two. Great Falls won 3-2.
Great Falls is 14-5 overall and 5-0 in league play. One of UGF's losses was a 3-0 shutout against the Lady Bulldogs at the UM-Western Invitational in September. MSU-Northern is 2-3 in conference play and 7-7 overall.
“This will be a big test for us this weekend,” added Peterson. “Both teams are very good and have great fan support. We just need to go in and play our game and not make mistakes.”
Katherine Sunwall leads Western and the Frontier in kills with 4.44 kills per game and in blocks with 1.51 per game. She is next in the league in hitting percentage. Lindsey Scott leads the league in assists with 11.51 per game.
Western will stay on the road next week as they travel to Westminster on Friday, October 14.

Lady Bulldogs Down Lewis-Clark

The University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldog volleyball team raised their Frontier Conference record to 4-1 with a 3-0 win over Lewis-Clark State Saturday evening in Dillon. Game scores were 30-21, 30-23 and 30-24.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 12-7 overall. Lewis-Clark falls to 0-5 in league play and 1-13 overall.
Western controlled game one and never fell behind. In games 2 and 3, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind Lewis-Clark early, but rallied in both games for the wins.
Katherine Sunwall led Western with 14 kills and five blocks. Jenny Finlay followed with 11 kills and three blocks. Finlay led the team in defense with 17 digs.
Western returns to action Friday, October 7 at the University of Great Falls and Saturday, October 8 at MSU-Northern.
