Bulldog Volleyball Goes 0-2 on High-Line

The Lady Bulldogs dropped two Frontier Conference matches over the weekend.

Montana Western lost 3-0 to Montana State-Northern on Friday night. Courtney Nichols led the Bulldogs in kills with nine. Kiley Myers had five service aces and 13 digs.

The Bulldogs lost to the University of Great Falls 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Nichols led the Western attack with eight kills while Myers again led the defense with 15 digs.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season this Friday and Saturday with home matches against Lewis-Clark and Westminster.

Bulldogs Make High-Line Trip

The University of Montana Western volleyball team travels to Havre and Great Falls for Frontier Conference matches Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 and Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Bulldogs play at Montana State-Northern Friday at 7 p.m. and the University of Great Falls on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Montana Western is 0-20 overall and 0-10 in the Frontier Conference after last Friday’s 0-3 loss to Montana Tech.

Northern is 2-9 in league play and 3-17 overall after losing to Carroll College and Rocky Mountain last weekend. When the Northern and the Bulldogs met in September, the Skylights won 3-1.

The University of Great Falls is 5-6 in the Frontier and 11-11 overall after splitting last weekend. The Argos beat Carroll and lost to Rocky. The Bulldogs lost to UGF in September 3-0.

Montana Western will close out the regular season with home matches against Lewis-Clark and Westminster on Nov. 1 and 2.

Bulldogs Fall to Orediggers in Frontier Volleyball

Montana Tech downed Montana Western 3-0 in a Frontier Conference volleyball match from the Straugh Gymnasium, Friday night.

The loss leaves the Bulldogs 0-20 overall and 0-10 in league play.

Game scores were 16-30, 17-30, 19-30

Courtney Rasmussen led the Bulldogs with six kills. Kirby Myers led the defense with nine digs.

Bulldogs Host Montana Tech in Frontier Volleyball

The University of Montana Western Bulldog volleyball team hosts Montana Tech in a Frontier Conference match Friday, Oct. 19.

The first serve is at 7 p.m. from the Straugh Gymnasium on the Montana Western campus.

The Bulldogs are 0-9 in league play and 0-19 on the season after losing two at home last weekend. Montana Western lost to Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College by identical 3-1 scores.

Montana Tech is 7-2 in the Frontier and 15-6 overall. The Orediggers are ranked fifth in Region I and received votes in the latest NAIA Top-25.

This will be the third match between Tech and Montana Western this season. Tech won a non-conference match 3-1 in early September and the first conference meeting 3-0 in Butte.

The Bulldogs Kiley Myers leads the Frontier in service aces with .60 per game. Tech’s Katie Daly leads the league in blocks with 1.8 per game while teammate Jodi Hogart leads the conference in assists with 10.9 per game.

Bulldogs Still Searching For First Win

The Bulldogs dropped Frontier Conference matches to Carroll College and Rocky Mountain by identical 3-1 scores.

Against Carroll, the Bulldogs dropped the first two games 20-30 and 19-30 and then led from start to finish to win the third game 30-28. In game four, the Bulldogs led early but could not hold off a Carroll comeback and lost 27-30.

Brianna Ternes and Kirby Myers led the Bulldog attack with 11 kills apiece. Kiley Myers led the defense with 15 digs followed by Nicole Mertens with six.

Against Rocky, the Bulldog lost the opening game 23-30 and then won the second 30-25. In games three and four, the Bulldogs stayed close to Rocky but Rocky's experience took over and Bears won 30-20 and 30-25.

Ashlee Johnson led the Bulldog attack with 18 kills followed by Courtney Nichols with 13. Four plays averaged in double figures in digs led by Kiley Myers with 16, Kirby Myers with 15, Stephanie Couture with 12 and Brianna Ternes with 11.

The Bulldogs host Montana Tech on Friday, Oct. 19.

Bulldog Volleyball Hosts Carroll and Rocky

The University of Montana Western Bulldog volleyball team hosts the Carroll College Saints on Friday, Oct. 12 and the Rocky Mountain College Bears on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Friday match begins at 7 p.m. and the Saturday match begins at 2 p.m. Both matches are in the Straugh Gymnasium.

Montana Western has yet to taste victory. The Bulldogs are 0-7 in league play and 0-17 overall.

Carroll is 1-6 in league play and 7-12 overall. The Saints lone conference win was a 3-0 victory over Western in September.

Rocky is 5-2 in the Frontier and 10-11 overall. The Bears beat Montana Western 3-0 in the opening weekend of conference play in September.

Bulldog sophomore Kiley Myers leads the Frontier Conference in service aces with .62 per game.

Bulldogs Fall to Lewis-Clark

The Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team used strong play at the net to outhit and outmuscle a smaller but gutsy University of Montana Western squad to claim a 30-20, 30-12, 30-16 Frontier Conference victory at the LCSC Activity Center on Thursday night.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-6 in league play and 0-16 overall.

LCSC hit .362 during Thursday’s match and had 48 kills, compared to 26 for Montana Western, which has only one player taller than 5-foot-8.

Despite the height difference, Montana Western hung with LCSC early in the first game by using quick sets. After the Bulldogs tied the score at 11-11, LCSC scored 19 of the next 22 points to roll to the win.

Montana-Western never led in the second game, but did keep things close until LCSC pulled away at the end. In the third game, the Warriors led 12-3 and Western could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs were led by Courtney Nicholls’ eight kills, while Stephanie Couture added 21 assists and 13 digs. Montana-Western hit .046 for the match.

Bulldogs at Lewis-Clark and Westminster

The University of Montana Western volleyball team hits the road for the longest road trip of the season when they play matches at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho on Thursday, Oct. 4 and at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The Bulldogs are 0-15 overall and 0-5 in conference play after losing at home to the University of Great Falls and MSU-Northern. The injury bug continues to bite Montana Western.

Jandi Farnsworth is the latest Bulldog player to fall victim to injury. The Billings freshman hurt her knee Saturday and is questionable for the weekend.

Lewis-Clark is 4-1 in the league and 10-3 overall after losing to Rocky and beating Carroll last weekend.

Westminster is also 4-1 in the Frontier and are 11-5 overall and ranked 11th in the latest NAIA poll.

Freshman Courtney Nichols leads the Bulldogs in kills with 1.98 per game followed by sophomore Brianna Ternes with 1.94.

Sophomore Kiley Myers leads the team and is fourth in the Frontier in digs with 4.12 per game.

The Bulldogs return home to host Carroll College on Friday, Oct. 12 and Rocky Mountain College on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Volleyball Loses to Northern and Great Falls

The Bulldog volleyball team dropped Frontier Conference matches to MSU-Northern and the University of Great Falls.

Against Northern, the Bulldogs won the opening game 30-26 but then dropped the next three. Courtney Nichols led the team in kills with eight followed by Brianna Ternes with seven. Kiley Myers once again led the Bulldog defense with 15 digs followed by Nicole Mertens with 11.

The University of Great Falls showed that despite injuries to two key players, they are still one of the best teams in the conference with a 3-0 victory.

Ashlee Johnson led the Bulldogs with seven kills. Myers led the defense with 12 kills.

The Bulldogs travel to Lewiston, Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah for matches against Lewis-Clark State and Westminster.
