Lady Bulldog Volleyball Adds Two

Ashlee Johnson, a 5-9 middle blocker/outside hitter from Dutton and Aliece Brianne Wichman, a 5-9 outside hitter from Belt, have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play volleyball for the University of Montana Western according to head coach Katie Howells.

Johnson earned All-Conference and All-State honors in volleyball. She recorded 143 kills and 93 blocks her senior season. Johnson led Dutton-Brady to four straight divisional tournaments. Her team placed third in state. She also competed in basketball and earned All-Conference honors. In track, Johnson won the javelin title at last weekend’s Class C State meet.

“Ashlee is a very strong player,” said Howells. “She is very athletic as demonstrated by her success in three different sports. Ashlee can come in and provide depth in a couple of different positions.”

From the classroom, Johnson received Academic All-State honors in both volleyball and track. She was selected to her school’s Honor Roll in each year and selected to the National Honor Society in her junior and senior season. Johnson is a 2006 graduate of Dutton-Brady and plans to major in biomedical and biological sciences at Montana Western. She is the daughter of Christina and Scott Johnson.

Wichman earned All-Conference and All-State honors in volleyball. In her senior season, she recorded 311 kills, 180 digs, 75 aces, 135 blocks and 247 assists. She also earned All-State honors in cross-country.

“Aliece will be a very positive addition at Western,” added Howells. “She has excelled not only on the court but in the classroom as well. We are pleased that she has chosen Western to further her education and volleyball career.”

Wichman is a 2006 graduate of Belt High School and plans to major in elementary education at Montana Western. She is the daughter of Jim and Kim Wichman.

Lady Bulldogs Sign Colorado Star

Stephanie Rosanne Couture, a 5-5 setter from Colorado Springs, Colo., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Katie Howells.

In her senior season, Couture recorded 650 assists, 61 digs, 13 kills, five solo blocks and 11 assisted blocks. In the off-season, she participated three years in Club Volleyball.

“We are very pleased that Stephanie has joined the Western volleyball program,” said Howells. “She is an athletic player who will be able to contribute right away.”

From the classroom, she maintains a 3.0 GPA and was selected to her school’s honor roll. Couture will graduate this spring from Falcon High School.

She is the daughter of Bruce and Theresa Couture and plans to major in biology at Montana Western.

Lady Bulldogs Sign Anaconda Setter

Danelle Parrow, a 5-9 setter from Anaconda, Mont., signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Katie Howells.

Last season, she recorded 169 kills, 461 assists, 100 digs, 51 aces and 22 blocks. Parrow earned All-Conference and All-State honors. She was selected to the State Class A All-Tournament team, the ABC All-Star team and as the USA All-Star Team Setter. Parrow was elected team captain.

“Danelle is a hard worker with a great attitude,” said Howells. “She comes from a program that knows what it takes to win. We are excited to have her join our program in the fall.”

From the classroom, she maintained a 3.6 GPA . Parrow was selected to her school honor roll, the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society.

She will graduate from Anaconda Senior High School on Sunday, June. Parrow plans to major in elementary education at Montana Western. She is the daughter of Frank and Carolyn Parrow and Bernard Parrow.

Montana Western Volleyball Signs Great Falls Star

Kirilynn Winkler, a 6-0 middle blocker in volleyball, and a post player in basketball from Great Falls, has signed a Frontier Conference letter of intent to play basketball and volleyball at the University of Montana Western, according to head women’s coach Kevin Engellant and head volleyball coach Katie Howells.

In basketball, Winkler averaged 12 points and seven rebounds a game last season and earned All-Conference honors. She was a three year varsity starter and was selected her team’s Co-MVP and elected team co-captain. Winkler was a member of four state tournament-qualifying teams.

“Kirilynn is a very strong post player and an outstanding athlete, said Engellant. “She has good moves around the basket and she also can step out and hit the perimeter shot. Kirilynn is a good student and will have a great career in our program.”

In volleyball, she earned All-Conference honors and was selected to the Eastern Montana All-Star team. Winkler led her team in both aces and blocks. She was a member of four state tournament-qualifying teams and was elected team captain.

“We are looking to Kirilynn to step in and play for us right away,” said Howells. “Her athleticism and work ethic make her a good fit for our program.

She also participates in track where she has earned All-Conference honors.

From the classroom she earned Academic All-State honors in all sports. Winkler was selected to the National Honor Society and to Who’s Who in America.

She will graduate on May 29 from Great Falls High School and plans to major in business at Montana Western. Winkler is the daughter of Keith and Mary Winkler.
