Lady Bulldogs Host Rocky and Carroll

The University of Montana Western Lady Bulldogs return to the Straugh Gymnasium for two tough Frontier Conference matches against the Lady Bears of Rocky Mountain College, Thursday, Sept 28 and the Carroll College Saints on Saturday, Sept. 30. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs are 0-16 overall and 0-3 in conference action. Rocky Mountain College is 9-3 overall, 2-2 in conference and ranked 6th in Region I. One of their non-conference wins was a 3-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs at the Montana Invitational earlier this month.

Carroll College is 12-4 overall, 3-1 in conference and ranked 5th in the region. The Lady Saints also own a 3-0 non-victory over Western.

Senior captain Jenny Finlay, who is averaging 2.4 kills per game, leads the Lady Bulldogs offensively. Nicole Clark and Lindsey Nicholls follow with 2.3 and 2.1 kills per game respectively. Defensively Arron Fjeld leads the charge with 0.7 blocks per game.

On October 4 and 6 the Lady Bulldogs travel to battle against Montana Tech and Lewis and Clark College.

Lady Dawgs Lose at Westminster.

The youth dominated Lady Bulldog volleyball team saw their losing streak stretch to 16 with a 0-3 Frontier Conference loss at Westminster.

Western lost 15-30, 16-30 and 22-30. Jenny Finlay led the Lady Bulldogs with nine kills followed by Kirilyn Winkler with seven. Defensively, Kiley Myers led the team with 17 kills followed by Kyla Rasmussen with 14.

The Lady Bulldogs look for their first win of the season as they host Rocky on Thursday, Sept. 28 and Carroll College on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Lady Bulldogs At Westminster College

The University of Montana Western Lady Bulldogs travel to Salt Lake City to square off against the Griffins of Westminster College in a Frontier Conference volleyball match. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 22, 2006 at Westminster College.

The Lady Bulldogs looking to capture their first win of the season. Montana Western is 0-15 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Westminster comes into this match with an overall record of 8-6, 2-0 in conference play and ranked #23 in the nation. The Griffins are looking to keep pace with Carroll College at the top of the Frontier Conference standings.

The Lady Bulldogs are led offensively by senior captain Jenny Finlay, who is averaging 2.4 kills per game. Nicole Clark and Lindsey Nicholls follow with 2.3 and 2.1 kills per game respectively. Defensively, Arron Fjeld leads the charge with 0.7 blocks per game.

On September 28 and 30 the Lady Bulldogs return home to face off against Rocky Mountain College and Carroll College.

Lady Bulldogs Open Conference Season On The Road

The Lady Bulldogs open Frontier Conference play with matches at the University of Great Falls on Friday, Sept. 15 and at MSU-Northern on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Montana Western is 0-13 on the season after going 1-3 at the their invitational held this past week. Their victory over Sheridan College does not count in their overall standings because Sheridan is a junior college.

The Lady Bulldogs lost to UGF 0-3 at the Great Falls tournament and 0-3 this past weekend. Western lost to MSU-Northern 0-3 at the Great Falls tourney two weeks ago.

"We aren't playing with any consistency," said Lady Bulldog coach Katie Howells. "We play really good for a stretch, and then really bad. The little mistakes are really hurting us and we need to eliminate them. We have had a good week of practices and want that to carry over that to the matches. The Frontier Conference is going to be very competitive this year and we need to continue to improve and play with more consistency."

Senior Jenny Finlay leads the team in kills with 2.41 per game followed by sophomore Lindsey Nichols and junior Nicole Clark with 2.2 each. Sophomore Aaron Fjeld leads the team in blocks with .71 per game.

Six Teams In Montana Western Invitational

The University of Montana Western volleyball team is hosting their annual Invitational Tournament Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 in the Straugh Gymnasium. The tournament field includes Montana Western, Carroll College, Montana Tech, University of Great Falls, Rocky Mountain College and Sheridan College.

Lady Bulldogs Drop Home Opener to Montana Tech

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Frontier Conference rival Montana Tech 0-3 in a non-conference match from the Straugh Gymnasium. Game scores were 25-30, 28-30 and 29-31. Western's overall record falls to 0-10.

Mistakes plagued the young Lady Bulldogs. They recorded 22 kills but had 21 attack errors.

"We played a lot better tonight than last weekend," said Coach Katie Howells. "I think we are getting closer to where we want to be. We just need to keep playing better."

Jenny Finlay led the Lady Bulldogs attack with 11 kills followed by Kirilyn Winkler with 8. Kiley Myers led the defense with 10 digs followed by Finlay with seven.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host the Montana Western Invitational. The tournament field includes Carroll College, Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain College, University of Great Falls and Sheridan College

Lady Bulldogs Host Montana Tech in Non-Conference Match

The University of Montana Western volleyball team hosts the Montana Tech Lady Orediggers in a non-conference match-up at Straugh Gymnasium, Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. This is the home opener for the Lady Bulldogs.

Montana Western is still looking for their first win of the season. The Bulldogs record is now at 0-9 after going 0-4 at the University of Great Falls tournament. Western lost to MSU-Northern, National American, Minot State and Great Falls.

Montana Tech is 3-5 on the season after going 2-2 in California. Tech lost to San Diego Christian and Concordia of California and beat Hope International and the Masters.

Lady Bulldogs Drop Four at UFG Tourney

The Lady Bulldogs saw their record slip to 0-9 after losing four matches at the University of Great Falls Invitational.

In their first match of the tourney, the Lady Bulldogs lost to MSU-Northern 3-0. Game scores were 28-30, 30-32, and 21-30. Lindsey Nichols led Western with eight kills followed by Jenny Finlay with seven. Kiley Miles led the defense with 12 digs.

In their second match, the Lady Bulldogs faced nationally ranked National American and lost 0-3. Game scores were 19-30, 12-30, and 21-30. Nichols led the team in kills with seven and Myters led in digs with 17.

On Saturday, Western lost to Minot State 15-30, 30-19, 17-30 and 21-30. Nicole Clark led in kills with 18 followed by Jenny Finlay with 10. Myers again led in digs with 15 followed by Finlay with 12 and Nichols with 11. Arron Fjeld and Nichols each had five blocks.

In their final match, the Lady Bulldogs lost to the host U of Great Falls Lady Argos 3-0. Game scores were 17-30, 21-30 and 16-30.

Finlay led the attack with seven kills. Finlay led the defense with 10 digs followed by Myers with nine.

Lady Bulldogs Compete at UGF Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs will be looking for their first win of the season when they compete at the University of Great Falls Tournament Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sep. 2.

Western faces MSU-Northern Friday at 9 a.m. and #4 National American University at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs play Minot State at 11 a.m. and University of Great Falls at 7 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs host Montana Tech Wednesday, Sept. 6 in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium.

Lady Bulldogs Fall To Idaho State

The Lady Bulldogs lost 0-3 to Idaho State University. Game scores were 20-30, 25-30 and 26-30. The loss drops Western to 0-5 on the season

Nicole Clark led the Lady Bulldogs with six kills followed by Arron Fjeld and Lindsey Nichols with four each. Jenny Finlay and Lindsey Nichols led the defense with seven digs each.

Volleyball Drops Four at Jamestown Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs opened their season with four losses at the Jamestown Tournament. One of the losses was to a school nationally ranked in the NAIA Top-25 Power Poll.

Montana Western opened the tourney with a 1-3 loss to Minot State. The Lady Bulldogs lost 17-30, 28-30, 30-26 and 18-30. Jenny Finlay and Lindsey Nichols led the attack with 15 kills apiece. Nicole Clark followed with 12 and Kirilyn Winkler with 11. Kiley Myers led the defense with 13 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs lost 0-3 to the host Jamestown Jimmies. Game scores were 23-30, 15-30 and 21-30. Nichols led the way with eight kills followed by Winkler with six and Clark with five. Myers again led the defense with nine digs.

In their third match, Montana Western lost 1-3 to Waldorf College. Game scores were 33-31, 29-31, 18-30 and 20-30. Finlay led the attack with 16 kills followed by Brianna Ternes with eight. Myers led the defense with 18 digs followed by Nichols with 14.

The Lady Bulldogs closed the tournament with a 0-3 loss to #8 Dickinson State. Clark led Montana Western with six kills followed by Finlay and Nichols with five each. Defensively, Myers led with 11 digs.
