Lady Bulldogs Down Rocky in Home Confernce Opener

DILLON - The Lady Bulldog basketball team rolled over the Rocky Mountain College Lady Bears Friday night from Straugh Gymnasium, with a final score of 68-53. This raised the Lady Bulldogs to 15-4 overall record and 3-1 in the Frontier Conference. The Lady Bears fall to 3-2 in the Conference and 7-12 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs came out strong leading at one time 17-7. Rocky Mountain brought it to within two when Western lost their outside range. Finding their stride the Lady Bulldogs ended the half outscoring Rocky 30-23.
Western took control in the second half outscoring the Lady Bears 38-30. Four Lady Bulldogs scored in double digits led by Megan Schmitz with 16 points followed by Jill Feller and Katherine Sunwall both with 14 and Hillary Taylor with 11. Feller and Sunwall also led in rebounds with nine and eight respectively followed by Schmitz with seven.
Jenny Balgua led the Lady Bears with 16 points followed by Alyssa Root with 10. Balgua also led in rebounds with five followed by Rae Dawn Lei and Jeri Matter both with four.
The Lady Bulldogs take on Carroll College tomorrow night Saturday, January 22. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. from Straugh Gymnasium.

Lady Bulldogs Pick Up First Conference Win

The Lady Bulldogs rebounded from their Friday night conference loss at MSU-Northern with a dominating 80-64 victory over the University of Great Falls.
The win evens Western's conference record to 1-1 and raises their overall record to 13-4.
Megan Schmitz led the Lady Bulldogs with 21 points including a sizzling 8 of 13 from the field including four three-point field goals. Jill Feller and Katherine Sunwall each posted double-doubles. Feller scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Sunwall scored 11 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Western was Linsdey Scott with 13.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Butte on Friday night for a Frontier Conference game at Montana Tech.

Lady Bulldogs Lose Conference Opener

The Lady Buldogs lost 88-87 to MSU-Northern in the Frontier Conference opener for both teams Friday night from Havre. Western held a 10 point lead with four minutes remaining, but could not hold off the Skylights.
Northern's Jaci Heny made two free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game to seal the win. Western falls to 0-1 in league play and 12-4 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs led by two at the half but were outscored 42-39 in the second half.
Jill Feller led Western with 21 points and 13 rebounds followed by Katherine Sunwall with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Megan Schmitz also scored 19 points.
Western travels to Great Falls Saturday night to face the Lady Argos.

Sunwall Named Frontier Conference Player of the Week

Katherine Sunwall was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week. Sunwall, a 6'1" post player from Great Falls led the Bulldogs to two victories at the Grand Canyon Classic.
Sunwall scored 43 points, pulled down 19 rebounds, had three assists and seven blocked shots.
She shot a sizzling 71.4% from the field. Sunwall was named to the All-Tournament team.

Lady Bulldogs Win Two in Arizona

The Lady Bulldogs were 2-0 at the Grand Canyon Classic basketball tournament December 30 and 31 in Phoenix, Arizona.
On Thursday, Western beat Seton Hill 89-62. The Lady Bulldogs led 43-32 in the first half and outscored the Pennslyvania team 46-30 in the second half.
Katherine Sunwall led Western with 24 points followed by Heather Kennedy with 15 points and Jill Feller with 14. Feller led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounding with 11 followed by Sunwall with 8.
On Friday, Western downed Cardinal Stritch University 59-48 in a defensive battle. The Lady Bulldogs led 35-28 at the half and then held off numerous Cardinal Stritch runs in the second half to win their 12th game of the season.
Katherine Sunwall led Western in scoring with 19 points followed by Jill Feller with 12. Sunwall pulled down 11 rebounds followed by Heather Kennedy with 8.
Both Sunwall and Feller were named to the All-Tournament team.
Western opens Frontier Conference play this Friday, January 7 at the MSU-Northern, and Saturday, January 8 at the University of Great Falls.
