Bulldogs Earn Academic All-American Honors

Senior Jill Dana and junior Kaylee Williams were named to the 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Scholar-Athletes.
A total of 29 schools are represented this season led by Bethel (Tenn.) and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) with five selections each.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.

Bulldog Women Earn All-Conference Honors

Two University of Montana Western women's basketball players were named to the Frontier Conference All-Conference team.
Senior Jill Dana was named to the second team and Chloe Mosey was named Freshman of the Year.
Dana led the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game. She was second in the conference and in the nation seventh in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.
Mosey was second on the team in scoring with 9.83 points per game. She was second on the team and ninth in the Frontier Conference in rebounding with 6.37 rebounds per game.
The Bulldogs finished the season with an 18-13 overall record. They failed to qualify for the national tournament for the first time in eight years.

Bulldogs Fall to Lewis-Clark in Conference Tourney Semi-Finals

Montana Western ended their season with a 69-87 loss to Lewis-Clark State in the semi-finals of the women's Frontier Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs closed their season and an overall record of 18-13.
The injury-riddled Bulldogs stayed with top-seeded Lewis-Clark in the first half. After falling behind 5-0, UMW came roaring back.
A three-point basket by Genna Rucker tied the game at eight at the 16:55 mark. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with a Jill Dana three-pointer at the 11:57 mark. That prove to be UMW's only lead of the game.
Lewis-Clark's depth took over in the first half's final four minutes as the Warriors built a ten-point lead. L-C led at the break 46-38.
Lewis-Clark opened the second half with 10-2 run to build a double digit lead they would not lose.
Cold shooting and turnovers plagued the Bulldogs in the second half helping L-C maintain their double digit lead.
Dana led the Bulldogs with 20 points followed by Rucker with 16 and Heather Brooks with 12.

Bulldogs Advance to Semi-Finals With Overtime Win

The Bulldogs advanced into the semi-final round of the Frontier Conference Women's Basketball Tournament with a 58-57 overtime win over Montana State-Northern.
UMW now faces top seeded Lewis-Clark in the conference semi-finals on Friday, Mar. 7. Tip-off is 6 p.m. from the Maroon Activity Center in Butte, Mont.
Northern jumped out to a fast start with a 5-0 lead. UMW battled back and outscored the Skylights 12-6 to take a 12-11 lead with 10:05 remaining in the first half.
The teams battled evenly, with the lead changing often. The Bulldogs then took control and outscored Northern 9-0 over the final three minutes of the half and led 32-24 at the break.
Northern opened the second half with a 12-4 run to tie the game at 36 with 13:28 remaining. The Skylights stretched their lead to four, 42-38 at the 8:47 mark.
The Bulldogs snatched the lead back on Jill Dana three-point basket. UMW stretched the lead to four, 50-46 and then went cold. Northern scored four unanswered points to send the game into overtime.
UMW opened the overtime with back to back field goals from Jill Dana followed by a second chance lay-up from Chloe Mosey to lead 56-50.
The Skylights cut the lead to one before a Jamie Lake basket sealed the Bulldog win.

Bulldogs vs Skylights at Frontier Conference Tournament

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs play the Montana State-Northern Skylights, Thursday, March 6 in their first round of the Women’s Frontier Conference Tournament. Tip -off is 6 p.m. from the Maroon Activity Center.

During the regular season, UMW won their first game against the Skylights in Havre 57-56, and lost 55-72 at home.
Montana Western will finish the regular season 5-9 in the conference and 17-12 overall. The Bulldogs are the 5th seeded team.
The Bulldogs’ Jill Dana is their scoring leader. She averages 13.21 points per game and is ranked 6th in division I for 3-pointers made per game. Lara Shea leads the team in rebounding with a season average of 6.89 per game. Chloe Mosey averages 6.68 rebounds per game.
UMW is ranked 5th in division I 3-pt. average. The Bulldogs average 63.21 points per game and give up 68.71.
MSU-Northern is seeded in 4th and received votes in the final NAIA coaches poll, but were not ranked in the top 25. The Skylights have a season record of 6-8 in the conference and 16-12 overall.
Becky Sorenson is the leading scorer with an average of 12.44 points per game. Sorenson is third in division I free through percentage. Stacie Barker leads the team in rebounding with an average of 10.39 per game. Barker ranks third in division I defensive and total rebounds per game.
The Skylights are ranked third in division I field goal percentage defense and fourth in total rebound defense. MSU-Northern averages 58.14 points per game and give up 57.29.

BULLDOGS TAKE ARGOS

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs overcame University of Great Falls Argos, 62-53 in a women’s Frontier Conference basketball game.
The Bulldogs will end the regular season 5-9 in the conference and 17-12 overall. Senior Jill Dana led Montana Western scoring 20 points. Followed by Jaime Lake with 13. Laura Shea led the Bulldogs in rebounding with 11.
Tonight was seniors Jill Dana and Laura Shea’s last game in the Straugh Gymnasium.
Great Falls slips to 3-10 conference and 12-17 overall for the season. The Argos were led by Laura Keaster with 14 points followed by Jocelyn Moore with 12. Jacqui Millam led in rebounding with 9.
The Argos secured a lead early in the game they led by as many as eight points. University of Great Falls finished the half ahead 31-26.
The second half looked bleak for the Bulldogs and they trailed for the first 16 minuets. Chloe Mosey hit one of two foul shot at 3:50 to tie the game 50-50. The Bulldog’s Jaime Lake hit a field goal giving Western a lead that carried them to the buzzer.
