Three Prep Athletes Sign With Lady Bulldog Basketball

Three student/athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to Lady Bulldog head coach Kevin Engellant.
Heather Laubach is a 5’6” guard from Gardiner, Mont. She will graduate this spring from Gardiner High School.
Laubach earned All-Conference and All-District tournament honors. In her senior season, she averaged 11.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.12 assists and 2.2 steals. For her career, she averaged 7.6 points and 4.65 rebounds.
‘Heather is a strong guard who can play either guard position,” said Engellant. “She is very good perimeter shooter, and is a strong ball-handler who reads the floor very well.”
Laubach also participated in volleyball and track. From the classroom, she was selected to the Honor Roll. Laubach also participated in pep and concert band.
She is the daughter of Wade and Paula Laubach and will major in elementary education.
Rusti Morgal is a 6’1” post player from West Yellowstone, Mont. She will graduate this spring from West Yellowstone High School.
In her senior season, she averaged 14 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
“Rusti will be a great addition to our program,” noted Engellant. “She had an outstanding senior season and has a lot of natural ability at the post position.”
Morgal is the daughter of Mark R. and Sherri L. Morgal and will major in elementary education.
Nicole Marie Tams is a 5’9” guard from Lincoln, Mont. She will graduate this spring from Lincoln High School.
She is a earned All-District and All-State honors. In her senior season, she averaged 19.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 steals per game. For her career, she averaged 22.5 points and 7.1 rebounds. Tams was the District 13-C scoring leader from 2003-2007. She was selected to play in the Treasure State All-Star game.
“Nicole is a very athletic player who had a great four year career at Lincoln.” said Engellant. “She has the ability to play either a guard or a small forward, and is very quick to the basket.”
Tams also participated in volleyball, cross-country and track. From the classroom, she maintained a 3.86 GPA and received Academic All-State honors.
Tams is the daughter of Tony and Kathy Tams and will major in biology.

Lady Bulldogs Sign J.C. Star

Samantha James, a 6’0” post from Battle Ground, Wash., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to head coach Kevin Engellant. James transfers from Lower Columbia College of Longview, Wash.
This past season, she averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and hit 53% of her fields. She earned second team All-Conference honors as Lower Columbia finished 20-9 on the season.
“We are excited that Samantha is joining our program,” said Engellant. “She will give us immediate help in the post. Samantha has a good jump hook and she has a nice touch from the perimeter. She has the size and skills to be a very good player in the Frontier Conference.”
James is the daughter of Donna Sheppard and Michael James. She plans to major in secondary education.

Lady Bulldogs Sign Three

Montana Western women’s basketball coach Kevin Engellant announced the signing of three student athletes to Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent.
Danielle Baeth is a 5’9” guard forward from Fairfield, Mont. She earned All-State and All-Conference honors. In her senior season, Baeth averaged 11.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.2 steals. For her career, she averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
She was selected to play in the Electric City Classic, the Treasure State Classic and the Hi-Line Invitational Tournament.
“Danielle is long and athletic and is a tremendous shooter,” said Engellant. “She is a good defender and has the skills to be a very solid player in our program.”
Baeth also earned All-Conference honors in volleyball. She will graduate this spring from Fairfield High School and plans to major in biology. She is the daughter of Ronnie Baeth and Shelley Baeth.
Jenna Hedrick is a 5’9 forward from Billings, Mont. She averaged 11 points, 6.5 rebounds, and nine assists per game and earned All-Conference honors.
“Jenna is a very solid all around player,” noted Engellant. “She possesses a good mid range game and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket. Jenna plays hard and really enjoys the game of basketball.”
Hedrick will also participate in rodeo at Montana Western. She will graduate this spring from Huntley Project High School. Hedrick plans to major in business administration. She is the daughter of Josh and Vickie Hedrick.
Stevie-Leigh Sammons is a 5’7” guard from Charo, Mont. She scored 198 points and pulled down 118 rebounds in her senior season. She earned All-State and All-Conference honors.
“Stevie comes a very successful program at Charlo,” said Engellant. “She has good perimeter skills and is an excellent defender.”
Sammons also participated in volleyball where she earned All-Conference honors and track. She plans to major in elementary education. In the classroom, she was selected to the Honor Roll and National Honor Society.
Sammons will graduate this spring from Charlo High School She is the daughter of Steve and Kathie Sammons.

Lady Bulldogs Sign Washington Star

Chloe Mosey, a 6’0” forward/post from Bremerton, Wash., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to head women’s coach Kevin Engellant. She will graduate this spring from King’s West High School.
Mosey averaged 16 points, 8.95 rebounds and 3.41 steals this past season. She hit 51 percent of her field goals and 73% of her free throws. In her career, she scored 1236 points and pulled down 791 rebounds. Mosey was a three-time first team All-Conference selection and earned All-Tournament honors at the 2007 WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament.
“We are thrilled Chloe has chosen Montana Western,” said Engellant. “She is a strong post player with good moves around the basket. Chloe has a great attitude and the work ethic to be a outstanding player in the Frontier Conference.”
In addition to basketball, Mosey also participated in track and golf. From the classroom, she was a Rotary Student of the Month and was selected to the Merit Roll and the National Society of High School Scholars.
She is the daughter of James and Teresa Mosey and plans to major in business administration.
