Engellant Signs Lame Deer Star

Sissy Leah Iron, a 5’3” point guard from Lame Deer, Mont., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western according to women’s head coach Kevin Engellant.

Iron averaged 15 points and eight assists for Lame Deer.

“Sissy will be a great addition to our program,” said Engellant. “She has tremendous guard skills and is an outstanding ball handler and passer. Sissy shoots the ball well from the perimeter and has good range. There is no doubt that Sissy has the talent to be a great player in the Frontier Conference.”

In addition to basketball, she also participated in cross country. Iron is the daughter of Rennie Whiteman and Faron Iron and plans to major in computer science.

She is a graduate of Lame Deer High School and the Montana Youth Challenge Program.

Bulldog Women Sign California Star

Kelly Cole, a 6’0” forward from Turlock, Calif., has signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Montana Western, according to women’s head coach Kevin Engellant.

Cole transfers from Modesto Junior College where she earned Central Valley All-Conference honors. She averaged 10.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. In conference games she averaged 12.8 point, 10.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.

She was selected Athlete of the Week twice and was named to the Solano Showdown All-Tournament team.

“Kelly is a great addition to our program,” said Engellant. “She is a very physical player who plays extemely hard on both ends of the court. Kelly is a good rebounder and a tremendous passer.”

Cole is a 2004 graduate of Denair High School where she earned first team all-conference honors and was named MVP of her team. After her senior season, she was named Denair Girl’s Basketball Player of the Year.

At Denair, Cole also competed in volleyball and softball. She is the daughter of Scoot and Marli Cole and will major in sociology.
