Lady Bulldogs Open 2005-06 Season
Friday, September 30 2005
The University of Montana-Western Lady Bulldog basketball team will officially kick-off the 2005-06 season on Sunday, October 2 with the first practice of the year.
Last year, Western finished with an overall record of 25-8 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the sixth straight season.
Head Coach Kevin Engellant will build his team around a talented group of returning players and an equally talented group of transfers.
Starters Katherine Sunwall and Megan Schmitz return along with Lindsey Scott, Billi Suhr and Laura Shea. Add to the lineup, transfers Becky O'Neil from Weber State, Colette Behrent from MSU-Billings, Jennell Day from Notre Dame de Namur and Crystal Kain from Wenatchee Community College. Freshman Genna Rucker of Bozeman rounds out the 2005-06 squad.
“The players and coaches are anxious to get going,” said Engellant. “The ladies have worked hard in fall conditioning and I'm excited to get practices underway. I really like the make-up of this team. We have depth at every position and I think we will have great team chemistry.”
Western opens the season on October 20 with a home game against the University of Lethbridge.
