Scotorythra pachyspila (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)
Endemic
| Larva | |
| Female | | Male | |
Females tend to look like washed-out versions of the more boldly patterened males. The Kaua`i specimens lack a white patch proximal to the big spot that is usually found in specimens from other islands.
Host plants recorded from the Alaka`i Swamp:
By far the most common hosts are ohi`a and ohelo. I reared only one specimen on each of the other plants.
Development time in the laboratory at 20°C:
- Larva: 9 weeks
- Pupa: 1 month
Larval parasitoids recorded from the Alaka`i Swamp:
S. pachyspila is one of the species that cannot be separated out as early instar larvae (when these parasitoids emerge) from other generalist Scotorythra. It is assumed that all of the generalist species can be attacked by these parasitoids.
