Lemhi Pass
View west from Lemhi Pass, on the Continental Divide, to the snow-capped Bitterroot Mountains in the distance. This was the Expedition's first view of the Columbia River drainage. The landscape in the foreground is underlain by mostly Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks, while the high peaks of the Bitterroots are held up by older Cretaceous granitic rocks.
