Montana Board of Regents Title IX Policy

1. Board policy:

  1. The campuses of the Montana University System endeavor to provide  a safe and positive campus climate for people to work and study. This policy is intended to assist campuses in providing an educational environment that is free of discrimination which will afford students the opportunity to engate fully in the educational programs of the campuses.

  2. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 ("Title IX:) and the Montana Human Rights Act prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities. Discrimination based upon sex can include sexual harassment or sexual violence, such as sexual intercourse without consent, sexual assault, and sexual coercion. Title IX also prohibits gender-based harassment, which may include acts of verbal, nonverbal, or physical aggression, intimidation, or hostility based on sex or sex-stereotyping, even if those acts do not involve conduct of a sexual nature.
