September 24, 2024

The University of Montana Western has been ranked #6 in Top Public Schools and #21 in Best Regional Colleges in the Western region by U.S. News & World Report in their 2024-25 rankings.

U.S. News & World Report evaluates more than 1,500 colleges and universities on up to 19 measures of academic quality each year. Their rankings provide prospective students and families with valuable data to help them make informed decisions about higher education institutions.

“Now in its 40th year, the Best Colleges rankings continue to be a trusted source of information for students and their families,” says LaMont Jones, Ed.D., managing editor for education at U.S. News. “By considering factors such as social mobility and post-graduate success, we aim to help students choose schools that not only provide a quality education but also prepare them for a successful and fulfilling future.”

U.S. News calculates each ranking based on a specific methodology, using factors including overall graduation rates, academic quality, Pell Grant recipient graduation rates, social mobility, first-generation graduation rates, student support services, financial support, and academic resources for faculty.

In addition to being ranked #21 in Regional Colleges (West) and #6 in Top Public Schools (West), UMW also ranked #44 in Top Performers on Social Mobility. The Western region is comprised of 15 states, including Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, and Hawaii.
