Hauer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a Focus in Archaeology and Native American Studies in 2008 as well as a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Montana in 2011.
Currently, Hauer serves as the Interlibrary Loan/Technical Services Technician for the Lucy Carson Library at Montana Western.
She has over seven years of experience working directly with undergraduate and graduate students, serving as a mentor, academic advisor, and supervisor. Hauer has assisted students with navigating the university system, applying for graduate school, and seeking employment opportunities in federal agencies leading to job placement.
“During my academic career I have served in a variety of capacities, but my focus has always been on creating an equitable experience for all students. I greatly look forward to continuing this kind of work; helping to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across campus. In this new capacity I hope to expand the department’s support of students and faculty – and to create a welcoming environment, where the free exchange of ideas helps to foster academic and personal growth,” said Hauer.
Hauer has extensive experience working with Montana’s American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations. This has included creating partnerships with tribal colleges, conducting consultation on human remains repatriation and artifact management, and directly assisting AI/AN students with completion of college through mentorship and advocacy.
Hauer served on the Board of Directors for the Missoula Urban Indian Health Center (now named the All Nations Health Center) from 2012 -2016. She has been a member of P.E.O. International since 2014, serving as a member of the Missoula AT Chapter which works to provide charitable educational opportunities and support to women returning to higher education.
“Ms. Hauer brings a wealth of experience to the position, as well as a clear vision for developing and expanding student success. We’re very excited to see her move into this new role at Montana Western,” said Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Ashley Carlson.
Hauer will begin her new position as Director of Student Success on November 8, 2021.
