August 27, 2025
The University of Montana Western’s History and Environmental Science Departments will host Dr. Will Munger as part of the “On the Rocks” lecture series. Dr. Munger will present “Working Across the High Divide: Learning from the Histories of Sheep Herders, Range Riders, and Indigenous Elders About the Future of Conservation” on Friday, September 5, from 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in UMW's Lucy Carson Library.

Dr. Munger is both a rangeland scientist and range rider. He previously served as a postdoctoral social science researcher at the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station in Dubois, Idaho, and is currently working for the J Bar L Ranch in southwest Montana.
The “On the Rocks” series, hosted by Montana Western’s Environmental Sciences Department, features presentations from experts in fields such as geology, hydrology, history, and conservation. Free and open to the public, the series provides opportunities for students, faculty, and community members to engage with research and ideas that explore the connections between people and the natural world.
