Katie McCrea, M.A.Ed., is the Director of Field Experiences and Licensure in the Department of Education at The University of Montana Western.  She holds a Masters of Arts in Education, a Bachelor’s of Science in Counseling and Human Services, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in International Education Leadership.

Katie McCrea has taught for 19 years in the Pre-K- Post Secondary setting: eight years in Arizona, eight years in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, and three years in Montana.  Her nineteen years of elementary and post-secondary teaching experience in public school settings in Arizona, The Middle East, and Montana included kindergarten, life skills, middle school reading, student-teacher mentoring, private school leadership, and adjunct professor of education.

In 2010 Katie moved overseas to pursue a teaching opportunity in the United Arab Emirates.  There she taught Arab-speaking kindergarten students reading, writing, maths and science.  During her eight years there, her roles included teacher, counselor, student teaching mentor, curriculum trainer for Arab teachers, and Irtiquaa licensing coach.

In 2018, Katie transferred back to Montana to accept a position with The University of Montana Western.  She currently teaches preservice teachers in the post-secondary setting.  She also places students in their teaching field experiences and handles all the teacher endorsement licensing paperwork for Montana state education licenses.

In her spare time, Katie prefers to travel with her family and spend time outside whenever possible.  She enjoys foreign cuisine, plane rides, shopping, and afternoon tea with her daughters.  She also appreciates the knowledge she is gaining from readings in her Ph.D. program.
