Bill Concannon “Neon Bender to the Stars” – Demonstration
September 8 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Demonstration – Bill Concannon started working with neon in 1973 and never looked back. Over the years Bill has been a neon sculptor, exhibiting since 1977, including a solo show at the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale in 2010 (his work is part of their permanent collection); and a maker of neon lighting and signs for the Movie Industry. He has worked on visual effects for all the first six of the Star Wars movies, The Star Trek series, Back To The Future, 1941, One From The Heart, and Howard The Duck (!). Bill also worked on prop neon signs for Basic Instinct, Zodiac, Black Out, Rent, Milk, 13 Reasons Why, The Matrix Resurrections, the upcoming Sofia Coppola Fairyland, and many others. As a neon sign maker he works mostly in the Berkeley-Oakland area, where he especially enjoys lighting up his long standing hometown of Crockett, CA.
As a teacher of the craft and art of neon, he has taught five times at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA, and taught for ten years at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He’s also taught numerous college art workshops and demos, with most recently, a pre-pandemic week-long workshop at the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale, CA.
