Hansen and Turk stay in hunt at CNFR

Tristan Hansen, the Big Sky Region All-around champion cowboy, notched a second straight 72 point ride Tuesday at the College National Finals Rodeo. Women’s team leader Tess Turk threw down a 2.5 second breakaway run to place in a tie for fourth in the round and take the lead in the average.

Hansen, a sophomore from Victor, Idaho, is also competing in the bull riding at the CNFR, but has yet to record a score in the event which has seen only a handful of qualified rides through two rounds. In addition to placing in the breakaway, Turk, a junior from Elko, Nev., recorded a 13.4 second run in the second round of the goat tying.

Freshman Jeret Angell of St. Anthony, Idaho covered his second round saddle bronc to earn a score of 64.5 points. In the barrel racing junior Connlee Gray, Liberty Lake, Wash., nearly matched her first round time as she clocked 15.80 seconds on Tuesday.

The second round of the CNFR concludes Wednesday evening then moves to the final preliminary round which will conclude Friday, June 17. The top hands in each event will move on to the championship round on Saturday.
