Accountant III (Student Account Services Manager)

The Student Services Accounts Manager manages the activities of student account services. The position coordinates departmental technology and student services with other departments, including Instructional Technology, Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, Residence Life and the UMW School of Outreach; resolves a variety of student account issues (billing disputes, payment issues, etc.) with both students and/or parents; provides training for the department on student services areas; and manages collection activities.


The successful candidate will demonstrate skill and experience in accounting principles and practices; the ability to reconcile accounts and work within established university and state guidelines in a variety of financial and operational situations; knowledge and experience in billing/collection processes and procedures; knowledge of banking and cashiering processes and procedures; experience testing new software and software upgrades; skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software and standard office equipment; public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals; experience working under pressure, handling conflicts, making decisions and problem solving; strong organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills as well as the ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment with attention to detail; the ability to assist with short-range and long-term planning; the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work on projects independently; and the ability to consistently exercise initiative.


A bachelor’s degree is in Business Administration or Accounting is required.  An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered. State, University or Banner experience is preferred.
