The Corr was after Jim Corr in honor of his many years teaching in the Fine arts program here at the University of Montana Western. The Corr Gallery is the host to our visiting contemporary artist and student shows. Currently on display, is the following exhibit:
EVIDENT ACTUAL | Karl Schwiesow
Poking fun at consumer culture, commodity culture, and the art world itself, Karl Schwiesow’s vividly colorful exhibit, Evident Actual, showcases the qualities of self-critical irony and of human sincerity within contemporary art.
Karl Schwiesow was born and raised in Homer, Alaska, where exposure to his father’s metal fabrication shop and in his mother’s yarn shop began his creative explorations. Having spent several years as a commercial salmon fisherman before turning to sculpture full time. He received his MFA in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Montana in 2017. He has since received artist residencies at the Sonoma Community Center, California and at Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, Montana.
Named after Chuck and Genevieve Walton, in honor of their significant generosity in the formation of the Permanent collection. The Walton Gallery will show a rotating sample of the works from the University of Montana Western permanent collection. Currently on display are works by the following artists:
