What if I’m a distance learning student?
eCounseling services are available for distance learning students or for on-campus students who are off campus for any reason.
What if I am experiencing a crisis?
Crisis look and feel different for each person and are self-defined, but often with help, larger crises can be avoided. Moreover, a mental health crisis does NOT ALWAYS mean someone is a danger to self or others. If you are experiencing a crisis that you cannot manage on your own and that you believe requires support from trained professionals, with few exceptions during the academic year, we provide two crisis slots daily. Call, email or walk over to Student Counseling in the Dean of Students building, to secure or schedule a crisis appointment.
For an after-hours emergency, please call 911 or go to the hospital emergency room.
Student Counseling Appointment Expectations
Please provide the counselor with 24-hour advance notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
We understand that there are times when sickness, a final exam or an emergency arises. Therefore, students will generally be given 2 free passes for no show or late cancellations. After 2 occurrences, we reserve the right to move the student to the bottom of the waitlist. A clinician will contact you once availability opens again.
Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes. Please understand that while we make our best effort to meet the expectations of each student client, there are times when one counselor is on staff. Sometimes we are required to cancel on the same day to meet the emergent needs of another student client’s situation. We appreciate your understanding as we work to meet the student body’s shifting priorities.
