The Montana Western Rodeo Team closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a strong performance at the Harry Andrus Arena Sep. 29-Oct. 1, 2017.
After two performances and a long day of slack, 31 Bulldogs found themselves in the short-go. The Bulldogs brought home three buckles and two all-around champions.
Both the Men’s and the Women’s finished second. The men maintained their third-place spot in the Big Sky Region standings, sitting 661 points behind second place Northwest College. The women stayed in second place, 318.5 points behind Montana State University.
In the roughstock, Senior Tristan Hansen wowed the home crowd in the bareback to win with a score of 152. Teammate Talon Schneiter took third. Brody Smith, Ruger Piva, Cole Snider, and Troy Kirkpatrick also covered their rides. Hansen is currently atop the standings with 637.5 points.
In the bull riding, junior Connor Murnion took home the buckle with a score of 163. Riley Savage placed fifth with a 68. Murnion is third in the region while his younger brother Kelly is fourth.
In the timed events, Garrett Mussman took third in the tie-down roping with a time of 27.6.
Matt and Lawrence Lesofski took fourth in the team roping with a time of 18.9.
In the barrel racing, Jaylee Stimpson was third with a time of 32.39. Stimpson sits third in the region and teammate Callie Wollenburg is just a few points ahead in second.
Kelsy Robinson finished second in the breakaway with a time of 8.3 on two, and teammate Tori Lewis was third with an 8.6 on two. Robinson and Lewis also tied for first in the women’s all-around.
Tess Turk took home the buckle in the goat tying with a time of 14 flat on two, as she continues to dominate the region with 582 points, Marlee Mussmann finished third with a 14.6 and sits third in the region. Sierra Lyons took fourth with a 15.2, and sits second in the region.
The rodeo team is off for the winter and will resume competition in April.
