Amanda Kortum, a junior biology major at the University of Montana Western from Ekalaka, Mont., is the 2009-2010 recipient of a Montana Space Grant Scholarship. The Space Grant Scholars and Fellows nationwide includes about 1,900 individuals. Kortums inclusion in this elite group is a tremendous success.
This honor reflects Kortums past achievements as well as present and future commitment to the aerospace sciences and engineering, Montana Space Grant Consortium Interim Director Angela Des Jardins said.
Amanda is a tremendous student with deep interests in all areas of science, which have driven her to pursue a vigorous biological research project here at Montana Western, biology professor Michael Morrow said. Her love of basic scientific research and her outstanding academic record make her a very deserving recipient of this award and recognition.
Currently, Kortum is working in the Montana Western research lab assisting professor Morrow with his biomedical research. She is also conducting her own research with Canidida albicans pathology.
