Montana Western Foundation Announces Frank “Frog” Hull Scholarship

July 3, 2018

The University of Montana Western Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Frank “Frog” Hull Scholarship, established by the Hull family.

Frank "Frog" Hull

Frog was a lifelong supporter of Montana Western. He graduated from Western Montana College, now the University of Montana Western, in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He later earned his Master’s in Education in 1960.

While at Montana Western, Frog participated in football, basketball and baseball. With his love for athletics, Frog went on to a prominent career officiating regional football and basketball games, including the Big Sky football games.

He helped with the first Bulldog Athletic Association Dinner and Auction, which celebrated its 26th anniversary this past year. Hull was a rodeo clown at one of Montana Western’s first rodeos.

Frog has spent time as a teacher, juvenile probation officer, motivational speaker, performer and city judge, but has never strayed from the sidelines as a Bulldog and Beaver supporter. His service to Montana Western and the Dillon community is unconditional and inspiring.

Frog received the Big Sky Service Award in 1982 and was inducted into the Officials Hall of Fame. He received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1971 and the UMW Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 1992. Frog was recruited into the Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 for his service to the Bulldog family over the years.

Frog and his wife, Yvonne, were married for 62 years. They are proud parents of six children who also share their devotion for Montana Western.

The Frank “Frog” Hull Scholarship was awarded for the first time this spring at the University’s Annual Scholarship Luncheon. The annual award is $1,000 and will be presented to a student majoring in English with great potential, financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Additional criteria for the scholarship is a student who volunteers to support his/her broader community on and off campus while demonstrating excellent leadership.
