UMW Fine Arts Gallery Displaying Divided by the Whole

The UMW Fine Arts Gallery will display the work of Missoula based artist, Jennifer Reifsneider, Feb. 19-March 29, 2019. Accompanying the exhibit will be an artist’s lecture on March 28 from 5-6 p.m. in Main Hall 319 followed by a closing reception at 6 p.m. in the Corr Gallery.

Reifsneider earned her BFA in Photography in 1995 from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. and her MFA in Studio Art in 2011 from California State University – Long Beach. In 2016 she moved back to Missoula, Mont., her hometown, to continue her career in art.

Her work has been displayed in over 70 solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. Most recently, Reifsneider’s work has been shown at various places in Los Angeles including the Center for Craft in America, L.A. Municipal Art Gallery and the Craft and Folk Art Museum. Her work has also been exhibited at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.

Reifsneider’s artwork is housed in many private and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Franklin Furnace Artist Book Archive and the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Mont.

In 2013 Reifsneider received an Investing in Artists grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation. That year, she also participated in High Desert Test Sites as part of the artist collective. For over two decades, Reifsneider’s work has explored the gaps between knowledge and experience.

“Divided by the Whole” is a collection of diagrammatic sculptures and installations that symbolize ideas of biology, mathematics, multiplicity and perception.
