Celine obtained her Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environment Sciences from the University of Savoie, France and her Master’s Degree in Economic Geology from the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada. While in Canada, she worked as an exploration geologist in the Timmins-Val d’Or greenstone belt (Quebec – gold exploration) and in the Churchill Province near Kuujjuaq (Quebec – Uranium mineralization along contact between highly deformed Archean gneiss and Paleoproterozoic metasediments). After completing her Master’s, she was hired at the Barrick Cortez Gold Mine in Nevada as an Open Pit Geologist for a year and as a Geotechnical Engineer for four years. Her work was focused on high-wall stability while maintaining efficient mining of the disseminated gold in highly deformed and altered Paleozoic sediments of one of Nevada’s richest Carlin-type gold deposits. In Cortez, she also managed the leach pad piezometers project to monitor the fluid elevation and prevent failure. Since 2015, she enjoys passing on her knowledge to UMW students and as a tour guide in Yellowstone. Her experience, while strongly based on theory, is also based on a significant amount of field work and hands-on projects. Her class is energetic and motivational, with a pinch of fun!
