Faculty Testing Support Through DSS

To support faculty and ensure access, DSS provides testing services for students approved for testing accommodations.

Faculty are encouraged to request the student’s official accommodation letter before arranging any testing accommodations. DSS issues this letter to students, who are responsible for sharing it with their professors and requesting accommodations in advance.

For online exams, students do not need to schedule with the DSS Testing Center. However, if a student requires an online proctor, reader, or scribe, they must schedule their exam with the Testing Center ahead of time.

Please note it is the student’s responsibility to submit to Nicole Hazelbaker, Dean of Students, the testing dates and times at least one week prior to the exam. Dean Hazelbaker will work with faculty to get a copy of the test to her office, with any special instructions and the standard time limit outlined. Please contact DSS or Dean Hazelbaker ([email protected]) for more information on this process.

Policies

Faculty’s exam instructions: DSS strictly follows faculty’s testing instructions. For changes to the exam instructions, students must receive written approval from faculty even when the change is as simple as a time change.

Student’s Late Arrival: If a student is up to 15 minutes late for a scheduled exam, we will subtract the time missed from the total time allowed for the exam. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, we will determine that the student is a “No show,” and the test will be returned to the instructor. The student will need the instructor’s written permission to reschedule the test.

Academic Dishonesty: Any student observed using unauthorized materials or resources during an exam will be reported to the faculty member. We have the right to stop an exam at any time if academic dishonesty is witnessed. Academic misconduct is subject to an academic penalty by faculty and a disciplinary sanction by the University of Montana-Western by the Student Conduct Code.
