Collegiate Stockgrowers teach Dillon third graders about cattle.

July 16, 2015

“We organized this event as part of our mission to educate the public about livestock and promote responsible stockmanship,” Mike Rose, club president, said.

The children toured the feedlot on a hay wagon and met working horses and cow dogs, and learned how to mix cattle feed.

Rose has worked for the Mussard’s Feedlot for the past three years and helped supervise the tour.

The club is new to Montana Western this year. Faculty advisor Brooke Erb said,“We’re off to a great start. The club is providing networking opportunities for students with an interest in agricultural advocacy and beef industry promotion.”

Bryan and Marcia Mussard of Dillon, Mont. own and operate the feedlot along with their daughter Talitha Smith. Bryan Mussard is the vice president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association.
