The groundbreaking ceremony at the Dillon, Mont. facility will feature remarks by Gov. Bullock followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking and tours of the center which includes a new 300×200 indoor arena.
“We are excited to launch this next phase,” MCH board member and La Cense Montana founder William Kriegel said. “The $2 million arena will enable us to grow our partnership with Montana Western and develop the center into a destination conference and research facility, attracting visitors and students from throughout the country.”
The University of Montana Western’s partnership with the MCH allows them to offer the nation’s only four-year natural horsemanship degree with options in management, psychology, science and the newly added instruction.
This partnership creates unique opportunities for students and economic growth for the community, Chancellor Beth Weatherby said. Expansion of the Montana Center for Horsemanship will allow us to meet the growing demand for the natural horsemanship program and to offer our new natural horsemanship instruction option, which directly responds to the needs of the equine industry.
The expansion will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the Dillon community and region.
The not-for-profit MCH is the first and only educational equine center in the United States to focus exclusively on natural horsemanship. Natural horsemanship is a philosophy thats based on understanding horse behavior, and bridging the gap between natural and conventional training.
Montana Westerns natural horsemanship program provides students with an education in equine theory and science, combined with the practical skills of natural horsemanship. Skills taught are based on the principles of equine behavior, along with horse training methods of experts in natural horsemanship and similar disciplines.
Montana Western is the only public four-year institution offering block scheduling where students take a single class at a time, three hours each day, then move on to the next. This innovative program is called Experience One.
