Bill Wilson Appointed to Athletic Director Position

December 28, 2017

The University of Montana Western has announced the appointment of Bill Wilson to the position of Athletic Director and Development Officer.

Bill Wilson

Mr. Wilson is currently the athletic director at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas. Previously, he directed the athletics department at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. He began his Northland career as head women’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director.

Chancellor Beth Weatherby selected Wilson after a national search that brought several candidates to campus. “I greatly appreciate the input we received from students, faculty, staff, and community members. This was a very competitive pool of candidates, which is a testimony to the excellent reputations of our athletics programs, the Frontier Conference, and our University.”

“Bill Wilson’s experience, professionalism, and strong core values, and belief in the contribution of athletics to the process of student development, make him an excellent choice for Montana Western,” Chancellor Weatherby said.

Wilson earned a Masters of Education in Athletic Administration from Slippery Rock University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Eastern Kentucky University. He is expected to begin his duties on February 1, 2018.

“I am excited to begin my work with the University of Montana Western student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, campus leaders, alumni, and the entire community of Dillon,” Wilson said. “Together we can help Bulldog student-athletes achieve academic, athletic and personal growth and success. I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to work for an institution with the reputation of UMW in one of the most beautiful places in the country.”

Current Director Russ Richardson leaves the post at the end of the month to assume a management role in student health, wellness, and safety with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
