Early Childhood Education Professor Published Third Textbook

July 10, 2009

Bullard’s book, “Creating Environments for Learning: Birth to Age Eight,” is a new textbook for early childhood education students. The book was published this month by Merrill Publications and is available in both English and Chinese editions.

The book covers an extensive range of topics, including foundational information in classroom practice developmental and learning theories, children’s interests and their motivation to play and children’s diversity. It contains practical ideas and tips, engaging vignettes and examples from Bullard’s classroom experience.

“My passion for the importance of the early learning environment goes back to my undergraduate years,” Bullard said. “I have a special interest in curricular standards and work nationally in developing and implementing standards using play-based curriculum.”

Bullard serves on the committees and boards of several national education organizations. She was involved in the development of the state of Montana guidelines and standards for early childhood, preschool, kindergarten and elementary higher education. Bullard has worked for over 30 years in the early childhood field as a preschool and elementary teacher, child care director, Head Start administrator and professor of early childhood.

She is the daughter of Anne Henderson and the late Ed Henderson. The book is dedicated to her mother.
