On March 22, 2018, there will be a closing reception in the gallery from 5:30-7:00 pm, featuring a talk from the curator and the announcement of prizes at 6:00 pm. The community is invited to join in the celebration of these student artists and their creative works.
On the exhibition, Assistant Professor of Art and Fine Arts Gallery Coordinator Aja Mujinga Sherrard said, “Selected and curated by a secret guest juror, this show showcases artwork made by student artists here at the University of Montana Western. In particular, it showcases student experimentation: featuring a range of skill and experience, from first-time art students taking a bold new leap into visual language to more advanced students refining their technique and ideas. The show highlights the rapid energy and potential of college art; ultimately posing more questions than it answers and inviting our students to never stop doing the same.”
In addition, the gallery’s permanent collection is now presenting four prints from renowned photographer Ansel Adams from his Manzanar Relocation Center, California series: “Farm Workers”, “Monument in Cemetery”, “Tom Kobayashi and Landscape”, and “Calisthenics.”
The closing reception of the Student Art Exhibit will be free and open to the public, and complimentary coffee, cider, and cookies will be served. The Gallery is located at the South end of Main Hall.
