The Fine Arts Department of the University of Montana Western is pleased to announce the 2019-20 Performing Arts Series, sponsored by the Bank of Commerce. Each exciting performance will take place on the Montana Western campus.

The opening event of the series, the “Annual 10-Minute Play Festival,” will be held September 12-16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Small Auditorium (Main Hall room 314). All plays are directed, produced, and performed by Montana Western students, and each night will feature a different selection of plays. Festival director, Larry Brazill, is inviting students, faculty, staff and community members to submit their original short plays for the event. For more information, contact him at [email protected].

On the opening night of the 10-Minute Play Festival, the community is invited to the UMW Fine Arts Gallery to experience “Imaginarium,” an exhibit by visiting artist Louis Habeck. There will be an artist’s talk at 5:00 p.m. in Main Hall 309 followed by a reception in the gallery with refreshments from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Rob Quist & The Great Northern Band with Halladay Quist will perform on September 24, with a 3:15 p.m. teaser concert on the Legacy Plaza followed by a full concert performance at 7:30 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium.

October 4 will feature Shakespeare in the School’s “Romeo and Juliet” at 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium, the first stop on the company’s fall tour.

“The Giver,” based on the award-winning novel by Lois Lowry, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium October 24-26, with matinee showings to be scheduled. On December 10, at 7:00 p.m., please join us for the UMW Band and Choir Winter Program in the Beier Auditorium.

The spring semester will feature two rollicking comedies, “He Said, She Said” held January 30-February 1, and “Leading Ladies” April 2-4. The Spring UMW Band and Choir Concert concludes the series on April 28 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium.

Individual tickets for the plays and the Great Northern concert range from $5 to $15, and school group rates are available. Please contact Series Coordinator Judy Ulrich at 683-7422 or [email protected] for more information. Montana Western students are admitted free of charge, thanks to additional funding provided by ASUMW and Student Senate.
