March 1, 2016
The colt sale preview begins at 1 p.m. in the La Cense Arena in Dillon, Mont.
At the preview students will demonstrate their horse’s ability and answer any questions people may have.
These students have worked very hard since October to give these horses the best start possible and make them safe and reliable mounts, equine instructor Eric Hoffmann said. Our colt starting class has unparalleled success at the Top of the West Horse event and our quality of horses and training continues to get better every year.
Montana Western has won the all-around award for having the highest quality group of trained horses four out of the past five years since the competition began. Last year Montana Western had the highest selling gelding which was bought for $12,500 by a National Finals Rodeo Champion team roper.
The horses have been exposed to many things to prepare them for sale including extensive roping, cattle handling and riding outdoors in order to create well-rounded horses.
The horses will later be sold at the Top of the West Horse Sale and Competition April 8-9, 2016 at the Copper Springs Ranch in Bozeman. The competition consists of an obstacle course and flat arena work against Montana State University and their group of riders and horses.
All of the horses for sale were donated by local ranchers and top breeders including Chad and Verna Holland, Koy and Denise Holland, Harrington and Hirschy Ranches, Cal and Brooke Erb, Weaver Quarter Horses, Longhorn Quarter Horse Company, R Lazy 6 Quarter horses and Powderhorn Ranch.
The colt sale preview is free and open to the public.
