It was a great weekend and I am very proud of all the hard work and dedication my student-athletes have invested into our rodeo program, Head Rodeo Coach Iola “Olie” Else said.
Both the mens and womens team won the average for the home rodeo weekend. For the men’s team, Tristan Hansen won the average for bareback riding, Ruger Piva won the average for the bull riding and Jake Worthen earned second in steer wrestling.
The women’s team performed well under the lead of Tess Turk, a Big Sky Region Student Director and two-time qualifier for the College National Finals Rodeo, who won the average for both goat tying and breakaway roping, making her the weekend winner for the womens all-around title.
Our team is sitting very well going into the spring, Turk said. We had a great amount of success on both ends of the arena in rough stock and in the timed events.”
Montana Western rodeo finished the season with the men number one overall in the Big Sky Region and the women second to Montana State University. Individual team members placed in bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, team roping, barrel racing, break away roping and goat tying.
We are very excited about all the talent on our mens and women’s teams heading into the spring season, Else said.
The spring season will begin with the annual UMW Rodeo Club Banquet on March 31, 2016. Six Big Sky Region rodeos will follow.
