Nourse named Bulldog head football coach.

December 22, 2015

Nourse will also serve as interim athletic director until a replacement can be hired.

“We are fortunate to have made great progress in our athletic programs over the last two years under Ryan’s leadership,”  Weatherby said. “He has developed a foundation from which we can continue to build a strong program.”

Weatherby said the university will begin a national search for an athletic director.

“I’m excited to return as Bulldog head coach,” Nourse said. “I’m looking forward to building on coach Robertson’s success and putting structures in place to provide stability and consistency in our program.”

A 1997 graduate of Montana Western, Nourse previously coached football at the high school level and at Western State College, Truman State University and Morningside College. He was head coach of the Montana Western football team from 2011-2013 before becoming athletic director.

During Nourse’s tenure as athletic director, Montana Western added cross country and cheerleading as varsity sports. He has also been credited with growing athletic fundraising efforts including installing a corporate sponsorship program and significantly increasing revenue from the Bulldog Booster Bash, the program’s major fundraising event.

Nourse earned a Bachelor of Science in history and political science from Western Montana College (now the University of Montana Western) in 1997 and a Master of Arts in professional education from Morningside College in 2007.

Nourse will begin coaching duties with the team immediately and will officially take over the program upon approval by the Montana Board of Regents.
